Grian couldn’t help but treat the offer with suspicion. He wasn’t sure if the other was outright lying, but there was just something so… off, about the man, from his overeager personality to the gold rings in his slightly pointed ears, and he made sure to remain cautious about it all.
“A lawyer, huh? What do you charge?” he asked, one hand clutching his glass perhaps a little tighter than necessary.
The smile on the other’s pretty scarred face sharpened just a little. “Oh, nothing much… Just your first born child,” the stranger said with a wave of his hand, emerald green eyes sharp.

“Discussing possible reasons why Tau Ceti is not infected while other stars are,” Eva replied deftly. “I would invite you to join, but we were just finishing—”
“Oh, that’s easy.” His hand twisted a knob, and the notes came out sharper. “It is infected—Petrova Line and everything.”
In Grace's opinion, dreaming about time traveling is no excuse for getting out of practice with his Eridian. To the rest of the Petrova Taskforce, it seems a bit odd that their resident Astrophage expert has suddenly taken to carrying a keyboard around and playing it whenever he speaks. Eva Stratt resolves to figure out what is going on.

It's not jealousy. Adrian is adamant about that. They are actually insisting that it’s not any emotion at all. Not even dislike. They are simply completely uninterested in anything that concerns “the human”.
Rocky believes them. Adrian has always been the level-headed one out of the two of them. They are too logical to be jealous. They acknowledge that Grace and Rocky have a special bond after everything they went through together and also understand that none of that will ever pose a threat to their relationship.
Neither are they heartless or ungrateful. They know that Grace is the only reason that Rocky is back at all, the only reason their star has stopped dying. Adrian has told Rocky again and again that they are grateful and happy and wish the alien no ill will. They even helped with the construction of the biodome.
And yet they have no desire to get to know Grace.

People tend to treat happiness like a fragile bird, always careful not to startle it, as if one wrong move might send it flying into the horizon, never to return. They make sure that it’s always nestled in its cage, untouched, never singing too loud.
But happiness was never that fragile. It perches on the edge of ordinary afternoons, it is not a bird that must be handled softly. It’s a creature that trusts you enough to land on your shoulder, to nest in your chest for a while. It asks only that you notice it — not to trap it, not to prove you deserve it — but to meet its gaze with a heart wide open.
It needs to be lived with — the way you breathe, the way you love — without fear of breaking it.

Tommy was getting real fucking sick of this inescapable death snail.
Technically he didn't know for sure that it would kill him - he didn't exactly want to test out the hypothesis given that a positive test would be death - but that fucking thing was looking at him like a death snail would, and he didn't want to take that risk.
It kinda made things awkward round the server whenever something tense was going on - Tommy had been known to screech at the top of his lungs at the sight of the damn thing and then pace in paranoid circles while continuing whatever declaration of war was occurring.

And you have to promise, actually swear, that you won’t let go. Not once. Because I’m protecting you out here. Me. From all the bad stuff. Wolves, blizzards, monsters, other people, whatever. I’ll fight them. I’ll bite their ankles if I have to.”
Techno stared down at the small gloved hand. It trembled slightly in the cold air. Snowflakes landed on it and vanished. For a long moment the only sound was the wind.
Then Techno’s larger, calloused hand closed around it. Warm. Steady. Completely enveloping.
“Alright,” Techno said, voice low and steady, the way it always was. “I promise. But you have to promise the same thing. Don’t let go either. That way I can always protect you. No matter what.”
