A long, tired sigh leaves Snake’s mouth as he tilts his head up to the sky. The hole in the ground is wider at this point, his dirt and blood-flecked gloves balling into fists. “Oh, cut the shit, Fox. I know it’s you.”

Summary
Hawk knows when he has done wrong, has learnt every intricate wrinkle and purse of Tim’s face when he reacts badly to something Hawk has said. Sometimes, he has to remind himself that Tim has a low tolerance for cruelty. Sometimes, he has to remind himself that this is not something he wants to fix.
“I’m sorry, Skip,” he sighs, resting his hands on Tim’s face and stroking his soft cheeks. “I have a headache. I shouldn’t take it out on you.”
As much as Hawk hates to see Tim upset with him, there is something gratifying about the way he melts under Hawk’s hands, ice thawing with the slightest hint of praise or admission of vulnerability. Tim puts his hand against Hawk’s forehead, lingering stubbornness dissolving at the heat he feels there.
“You’re warm, Hawk,” he drops his voice, stepping in closer to squint at Hawk’s face in the first rays of morning sun. “And you’re pale. Please, come back to bed?”
