“I try not to make noise, most of the time,” Daniel murmured.
Armand nodded and mused at this. His hand slotted back into Daniel’s hair. “That’s because most of the sexual favors you exchange with men are done in the privacy of a public bathroom or bar-adjacent alleyway. Very little tender sex in your history.”
“I’m not good at being soft,” he said, then berated himself. He was starved and anemic and likely to die, and all of it combined flayed him open. Was he doing this because he thought it might save his life? No. Not really. But then, there was no other reason to do it. And Daniel needed a reason. At least, his brain did. His mouth, not so much.
Armand smoothed the trailing hair above his ear. “I disagree.”

While Daniel waits to die in a shitty apartment on Divisadero street, he asks Armand for a drink of water.
They both get a sip of what they're aching for.

Perhaps it's the emptiness, the deep void he can almost see spreading within himself. Perhaps it's just the loneliness, or the need to be with someone who knew her, and loved her. Someone who can understand.
Or maybe it's just the fact that he really, really, misses him.

Louis decides to meet with Lestat after killing Bruce. What he finds there is not exactly what he had expected.

“I'm old enough to do a lot of things,” Daniel steps in closer with a cocky little smirk. He's almost taller than Armand, but has a way of twisting his body until he's looking up at him, putting himself into a submissive role. His heart rate speeds up. Armand wonders if he's aware that it's fear, not arousal, that makes his body react this way. Daniel's mind seems to be confused on the point.
Armand leans over Daniel's shoulder, looking at the array of handkerchiefs on display. “I see that.” He can feel Daniel's breath on his neck as he reaches over and pulls at the end of one of them, tugging it out. “What is this one for?” he asks, waiving it in front of Daniel's face. It's bright orange.
The boy shrugs, his grin even wider. Satisfied. “Anything goes. If you pay enough.”
Armand raises his eyebrows. “You shouldn't give people blanket permission to do anything they want to you. Some people are monsters.”

The night stretches outside, and Lestat starts tracing lines against Louis’ thigh. It’s tender at first, only a faint touch. He watches— eyes intent on Louis’ face, looking for his reaction. Then he cups him on top of his pants.
Louis stops him with a gentle hand on his wrist.
“Not tonight,” he breathes. “Soon. But not tonight.”
Lestat eyes him with confusion. “Why?”
Louis answers with a knowing look and a sweet kiss. Their lips meet so softly, so gently, it almost makes Louis cry.
“Because you don’t need to please me to be loved,” he finally says against Lestat’s mouth, heart on his throat. Lestat freezes. “Let me hold you.”

Cliff sighs and dares not to meet Ilya’s eyes.
“The other day, when you and Hollander were talking shit to each other. I don’t know. It was sweet. I’ve never seen Hollander act like that with anyone.”
Ilya waits for him to continue, cogs turning and creaking in his brain as more silence passes by them. He snaps his head towards Cliff, who looks away. It’s almost endearing to see his boisterous friend shy like this - it would be, if it weren’t over his Shane.
“You…you want to fuck Hollander?”

Armand cups Daniel’s face with his free hand, and Daniel’s mouth falls open on another gasp. He strokes Daniel’s cheek with his thumb, all the way up to his earlobe, rubbing it gently, soothing.
“I know,” he says. “It’s okay. You know, I haven’t done it like this in a long time.”
“Yeah?” Daniel asks, panting.
“Yeah,” Armand replies. “You will be the first I’ve been inside in decades.”
