    Summary

Armand's feelings upon dreams have always been this: what story is the hidden part of you shouting into your ear? Fears and desires often make themselves known most freely when cloaked in some lurid disguise. This was the old premise of the Théâtre des Vampires: we, the monsters lurking in the shadows of your minds, show you to yourselves.

If Daniel is the monster of his heart, what story is he trying to tell himself?

As Louis' interview unfolds, Armand finds himself dreaming of past disaster, of imagined catastrophe and of a love affair he cannot remember —and finds himself asking questions he may not want answered.

    Summary

“Really?” Daniel says. His brain is reeling off all the reasons this is a bad idea, like a news station ticker. Louis is going to see Daniel killing a guy. He’s going to see that Daniel likes doing that. He’s going to see that if Daniel doesn’t do that on demand, his body unionises against his mind, downs tools, forms a picket line, and says no dice until our demands are met. “What about … I mean, fair warning, this will not be a little drink.”

Four days after the interview: Daniel's navigating a new species and a body that still won't quite do as it's told. Louis is navigating a few changes of his own. And then what?

“Marius,” Daniel interrupts. “That was your maker, right?”

    “Yes. Marius de Romanus.”

“Out of all the names you could have gone with, you chose his?”

The combined efforts of a brand new air fryer and a certain Daniel Molloy force Armand to re-evaluate his feelings about the Maker he loved. A post-S2 fic about identity and abuse.

    Summary

Daniel won his first Pulitzer with an article that he wrote over one feverish week, high on the best cocaine he’d ever hit. Half-starved, and angry about it. Wholly out of his mind with fire. Three months behind on rent and desperate for a break. He didn’t remember the day it was published, let alone screaming at his editor for altering his headline.

The article that won his second Pulitzer took him ten years of blood, sweat, and tears. He had brawled for that story, facing off against unremitting skepticism, a vicious divorce, a back alley beatdown, a dozen failed leads, being fired, being rehired, and six broken ribs so he could keep going. Every sentence had been suffering like nothing he’d ever experienced. White-knuckled determination alone crafted that pain onto two thousand perfect lines. Publishing that one ingrained a permanent pleasure spot in his brain, one he shamelessly hit when cocaine just wouldn't cut it.

Louis had been a fever week. Brawling with Armand was gonna take him a lot longer than ten years.

    Summary

“You could have let Louis suck me dry, and worry about the drugs in his bloodstream later.” Maybe Louis would feel a little guilty after he sobered up, maybe not – ultimately, it wouldn’t really matter: Daniel would have been another dead boy brought over to the apartment on Divisadero Street. “You could have dragged him out of the sun, just killed me, and tried to salvage that mess of a situation.” Daniel, disposed of; the tapes, gone; playing the part of a remorseful and caring husband, engaged. “But no, you had to put on a fucked up horror show that went on for days, punishing him through me.” If Daniel hadn't lived, he wouldn't be here in Dubai; and if he were just any award-winning investigative journalist, he still wouldn't have been asked to come here for a re-do interview. “You made me important,” he spells out, a punchline that Armand seemed to be missing, in all this.

“And haven’t I been reaping the fruits of it every night and day for the past forty-nine years,” Armand muses, his sharp fingernail scraping the skin dangerously close to Daniel's hammering pulse point.

“Oh, but you haven’t tried any of the desserts –” Armand admonishes, no doubt ready to conjure up another ten platters in Daniel’s immediate vicinity.

“How did you know,” he interrupts, looking at the vampire sitting diagonally from him. “About Alice.”
