I walked slow. There is a particular pleasure to feeling rain on your face — not the polite sprinkle that merely wetters your hair, but the honest, uninterested droplets that find the planes of your cheeks and nose as though testing for warmth. Most people I know simply get wet and resent it. They mistake discomfort for defeat. But I feel it. Rain maps itself onto me and I reply by breathing more deliberately, by allowing the water to wash something small and private clean.
