    Eddie has always been a runner.

    Fuck, he’s good at it, too.

    In elementary school, when the kids playing soccer would chase after him, the teachers would sit by and do nothing when they caught him because boys will be boys. In middle school, when those same kids spat at his feet and called him trailer trash and Eddie couldn’t help but snarl something back, and he’d be running then, too. In high school, he ran when his drug deals went sideways, or if Hargrove was just fucking on one and wanted to take it out on the freak.

    He’s always been good at running. It’s kept him alive, kept him safe, mostly, and kept his stoner lungs from completely giving out on him. He’s always been slick, always been able to get away, always lucky. So much so that for a long time he questioned it. Questioned why he was always able to get away, questioned why he was able to avoid worse things happening when the universe clearly had it out for him.

    Today though…Today his luck runs out.

    While on parental leave after adopting an ex-Borg Brunali child, Kathryn Janeway and Jean-Luc Picard discover that a defect in her emotion-blunting chip puts the child's life at risk. Their other adopted child, Icheb, has wanted to have his chip removed for some time. They must make tough decisions about their children's health while seeking professional help to support their new daughter's emotional fragility.

    Janeway's passion for helping the children among the 30,000 ex-Borg (my story, Newcomers), leads her to contact a Vulcan journalist in the hope of spreading the word about children in need of adopters. When William Riker calls on his former captain to help him, they learn just how special their situation is.

    "Picard" never happened. "Prodigy" never happened. The books never happened.

    Set after Voyager’s series end, “Endgame,” and before The Next Generation film, “Nemesis.” Kathryn Janeway, on a leave of absence from Starfleet, runs into Jean-Luc Picard, who is on shore leave while The Enterprise is undergoing extensive upgrades. They have a whirlwind romance, then things go awry in front of every admiral and captain attending the annual Command Conference. The crews of The Enterprise and Voyager come together to save Captain Picard and Captain Picard's reputation. This story references Voyager episodes, “In the Flesh” and “Prey,” and the film, Star Trek: Generations.

    This story and its sequel (QT Pie) are in a modified script format. Upcoming stories will be prose.
