The originals died long ago, but they picked their replacements and those replacements picked theirs; nobody ever sees them again after they’ve been picked; They have their own wing of the Labyrinth, and they never leave.

So, he nods along to Dream to keep him happy before Tommy tears this whole fucking thing down. If Tommy were honest with himself, he’d say there's a small part of him that doesn’t know how to feel about this. Dream may be an ass, possibly the worst person out there, but he did help Tommy. When he was young, scared and alone Dream stepped in and kept him alive. The still young, scared and alone part of him will mourn that loss.
But the bigger, angrier part of him can't wait to see the look on Dreams face when he sees who betrayed him. The fucker deserves it after everything he’s done.
“Why’d you run?”
But that one, that one he won't answer. Not fully at least.
They know Dream found him, they know he kept him in that warehouse for years, they know Dream taught Tommy everything and that’s how he became Maverick. They know nothing about why Dream did any of that.
He didn’t tell them anything about why Tommy even followed Dream, because he was so fucking stupid for being so naïve and—fuck, if it isn't a weakness of his.
“I realized Dream wasn’t a good person” he settles on “I ran. But he found me”

Tommy stumbles back with a scream through gritted teeth, he makes the mistake of looking down, the knife comes straight at his chest and he doesn’t have enough time to plan a reaction so he just grabs what's coming for him.
Which was a huge fucking mistake, he didn’t time that right at all and instead of grabbing his wrist Tommy has his hand clamped right over the knife. He can feel the edges of the blade pierce into his fingers and the palm of his hand.
Thank fucking Prime the guy wasn’t expecting that, Tommy bites his tongue so hard he can taste metal as the guy stills. His stance is all wrong, a harsh wind could knock him over so Tommy sweeps his back leg forward and, despite how much this will hurt, let's go of the blade.
“Fuck!”
Or: You know the drill Tommy over here lives a wonderfully dangerous life as a vigilante and makes some friends and enemies along the way, nobody gets hurt, why would you say that! Nothing could go wrong : )

“How do you know this?” he glances back to Ares cell, ready to answer when the walkie talkie clipped to his cart crackles to life.
“Thomas? Thomas are you okay?” one of the guards, Skeppy he thinks, the one watching the cameras tonight “You need me to come down there?”
Turning on his heels he curses under his breath as he stalks back to the blind spot. Unclipping it from the cart he brings it to his lips and turns it on “No--no, I'm fine. Almost done here” he grabs the mop with his free hand.
It crackles “You sure, what were they saying to you?”
He looks past his shoulder “Nothing, I'll be done soon” and Tommy turns the walkie off completely.
A lot can happen in a few months.
