    Summary

    These stories were written as part of the telephone writing game on the Chasing Stardust server. Essentially, playing a game of telephone, but with writing prompts! Each person came up with a prompt and it got passed on down the line, with everyone only being able to see the section of story directly before theirs. The result is a series of stories with continuity breaks and surrealist / absurdist elements.

    Coauthors on works are the prompt writers for the fic. They may or may not have contributed to the work itself (some prompt writers may choose to write wrap-up snippets), but are listed as the only coauthor so that we don't need all of the participants as coauthors.

    There is a cat.
    A kitten, really. Black, cowering in fear, chest tufted with white that matches its paws. It is very round. There is also a frog trapped under its little claws and teeth.
    “…”
    Ribbit!
    The cat raises its head. Large grey eyes blink up at Lan Wangji. It drops the frog.
    Quickly, the frog hops away, faster as Lan Wangji watches it go with incredulous eyes.
    He turns back to the cat.
    Then, “…Wei Ying?”

    or: During another day of rule-breaking and rule-copying, Wei Wuxian turns into a cat and Lan Wangji decides he’s a certified pet lover then and there.

    “It’ll be all right,” Nie Mingjue murmured to Nie Huaisang, who was curled in his arms, shaking and terrified. "It’ll be all right. We’ll manage, somehow.”

    He didn’t believe a word he said, of course. How could everything be all right?

    Their father was dead. Murdered – Wen Ruohan had put him down like a rabid dog, wringing his neck and tossing him aside. He’d then announced that Nie Mingjue and Nie Huaisang, now orphans, would be brought back to the Nightless City and taken into the Wen sect to be his wards, to be appropriately reeducated and brought up well. Brought up properly.

    Nie Mingjue didn’t know what to expect when they arrived. He didn’t think it would be anything good.
