Summary
“They left the heart in the body,” Soap explained, trying to remember everything he watched last night. “Ancient Egyptians didn’t really give a fuck about the brain. It was the heart that held everything. Destroying or even removing the heart was as good as destroying everything about a person. They couldn’t pass through the afterlife without it. The person’s soul would be condemned.”
“Bleak,” Ghost offered.
Or: Soap gets hyperfixated on mummification, and Ghost hunts down the man who tortured Soap.

Summary
“I think that’s enough Soap for one day.”
Soap didn’t think that the others realized that his heart had just stopped working.
A chest, a wit, murmured into a glass of half-drunk Whiskey by Ghost, a chuckling Gaz nearby who gave Ghost a pat on the shoulder. Price huffed before taking a sip from his beer, and Soap remained quiet, his body numb, his head foggy, his heart still.
“He’s your Lieutenant. That contract’s unreturnable.”
Price crooked a smile at Ghost, who let out a heavy breath. Gaz took a sip from his bottle, chuckling over it. “Should have read the fine print, Ghost.”
Ghost shrugged. “Next time I’ll do.”Another version of the shut-up-trope. Lots of angst and hurt!Soap with a happy ending.

Summary
Hands grabbed him from behind, pulling him backward. Soap shouted in surprise, but it was muffled by the hand pressing over his mouth. he threw his head back, effectively hitting his attacker in the nose. Using the distraction to his advantage, he pushed the arms off him and whipped around to face the man.
No, men. There were three decently sized men blocking his only way out.

New base, new look, new Soap. Sergeant MacTavish is prepping for a K9 field training exam when a familiar face shows up and asks him why did he leave Taskforce 141?
“Oh, sorry, sir. I was just finishing cleaning the... Oh.” He let his voice fall flat. “Lieutenant. Please excuse me. I have elsewhere to be.”
Ghost shuffled in the doorway, bag slung over his shoulder. “You're here?”

Summary
"Bloody Jesus." Soap shook his head, weapon down again, heart still high in his throat. "One of these days someone is gonna shoot ye for being a creep."
Ghost didn't even blink at that, fully stepping out of the small shadow that had been partially obscuring his bulk. He was geared up as usual, if usual meant having to take on an entire platoon by himself.
"I would like to see them try", he rumbled.

Summary
Ghost has been working at an animal shelter that rescued problem dogs for a while now. For the most part, it's a pretty great way to spend his retirement, especially with Riley by his side. Of course, there's always things that make life suck arse.
Like the guy with all the scars casing the shelter from across the street. Ghost hasn't taken a life in a long time, but if the bastard was the kind of piece of shit he suspected he was, he'd do what he had to. And if he was wrong... Well, he'd deal with that if it came to it.

Summary
He was used to pretending he was fine even when he wasn't — especially when he wasn't. And Soap used to think that that was just the way things would always be, because he never could figure out how to change.
And then he joined the 141, and for the first time ever, he realized that he'd found somewhere he belonged. Somewhere he felt at home. Somewhere that he didn't have to try to stifle himself, somewhere that people laughed at his jokes and paid attention to him long after most others would've tuned out of his distracted rambling.
(Or, Soap gets told to shut up and has a very bad time.)
