Jaune Arc's journals start as letters to someone who will never read them, scratched-out apologies and half-finished thoughts. Over the course of fifty years in the Ever After, the letters shift. They become routine. Records. Instructions. Confessions. Proof that he existed, that he cared, that he tried to do the right thing even when the right thing kept changing shape in his hands.

The gang has pretty much settled down in Mistral. Canon has diverged (obviously), but what else can possibly go wrong? Other than Jaune getting his ass kicked at every turn, and his friends realizing he can't be left to his own devices without something going horribly wrong.

“Come in?” Grace called out, unintentionally making it sound like a question.
The door creaked open, a man poking his head in. He glanced around the room before his eyes finally landed on Grace. “Sorry to interrupt, but I’ve gotta lock up soon.”
“Oh!” Grace stiffened slightly, smiling apologetically. He began to cram his things into his bag with a little more urgency. “Yes! So sorry, I was just packing up. Give me a few seconds and I’ll be out of your hair.”
“No rush,” The other responded evenly, opening the door fully. A dog’s furry little head poked out from between his legs when he did. “Looks nice in here.”
“Thank you! It’s amazing what a few hours and some tape can do.” Grace chuckled, trying not to look too delighted by the pup’s surprise addition. “I’m Grace, by the way. I’m taking over for Professor Dubois while he’s on sabbatical."
“Simon,” The man said in response before looking down at his companion. “And this is Laika.”
