Those are some of the first words Ajax, starving college student extraordinaire, has the misfortune of hearing upon waking up in a brave new world from what he's fairly sure is a very fatal accident involving water and a shit ton of electricity.
Okay, so he's not dead. That's good. But what's this about him being stuck playing the character Tartaglia? Tartaglia, as in the no-good, one-dimensional, cartoonish villain who met his untimely, gruesome death in the first act of the original game?
Forget this. Like hell Ajax is going to share that fate.
And so begins one man's journey to save himself from his awful destiny.

Little does he know, the missing Iudex Neuvillette is a lot closer to him than he realizes.

He ducked behind a tree trunk once he’d put some distance between himself and the group, pressing his back against the bark as he took deep steady breaths. He waited for the shouting to start, for his name to echo through the trees. But when that didn’t happen, he reached up for the first tree branch above his head.
He used to think that he was born to climb. Back when he was a kid and didn’t know much beyond the fence of Hell’s Gate, he spent every day climbing the trees at the edge of the boundary. He climbed until it became second nature, and he’d reach for footholds on instinct. Now, he shimmied up the young tree with ease, the wet moss a bit tricky to navigate but he managed it.
He crossed between treetops once he was high enough, watching as the recoms finally pulled their friend free. A murmur shot up between them, and their heads turned quickly.
They were looking for him.

There was more emotion in those few words than Gavin had heard in years and if he looked close enough, he swore he could see tears shimmering in Elijah's eyes. "Nothing has changed, not to me, not to anyone else. As far as they're concerned, I brought you to a specialist. But nothing has changed," he insisted. "You may have a new body, but you're still the same Gavin. You have the same personality, the same memories. You're still you."
"I'm not the same anything, Eli. You made me into one of your fucking plastic dolls! I didn't- I've never wanted that, you know that. Fuck," he spat, running false fingers through his false hair.
