Kaz wants to bleed this man dry. That’s what this feeling is. He can tell that he’s got some disposable income — come on, he’s got a full sleeve of tattoos on his right arm, and a partial sleeve on his left, and something that goes up the side of his neck from — Kaz assumes — his back. That’s proof of lots of disposable income, because none of them look like stick-and-pokes.
It has nothing to do with the fact that he’s objectively hot. Jesper will say he’s hot at some point during this incoming interaction, that’s how objectively hot this man is. Kaz is not unique in thinking that this blond man with sprawling tattoos is devilishly handsome. He’s just not.Or,

King Nikolai was not the one who came up with the name, first of all.
He’s just doing what Zoya told him would be a smart move, and he’s using her example of a title for the position for it. It’s fairly self-explanatory that way, at least.
He’s reviewing the next candidate’s resume before he interviews them. They’ve all already gone through the preliminary steps with other high level court members as interviewers, so there shouldn’t be any surprises for Nikolai to have to deal with in his quest to hire an Integrity, Transparency, and Anti-Corruption Officer.
Well, he sure thinks that through the first four prospective employees.
Then he gets to the resume at the bottom of the stack. He reads the name at the top.
And oh no.

Oh, fuck.

It’s been seven months. Seven months of touching Wylan.
And it does not feel like they’ve made very much progress, in the grand scheme of things.
At least not to Kaz.
Other than getting closer to Wylan, it feels fairly pointless.
Kaz keeps going to Wylan to practice, to expose his hands to the human skin that has for so long revolted them. But it feels like he’s just doing it to spend time with Wylan, as opposed to it actually helping his haphephobia.
They’ve set up a schedule that Kaz does his damnedest to follow strictly. Touch one day, recuperate the next, touch again on the third day; rinse and repeat ad infinitum.
Or, at least, rinse and repeat for six months.Or,
Kaz and Wylan try to escalate their touching practice. It goes about as well as you’d think it would when one of them has had fairly severe haphephobia for most of his life.

“...hey, Kaz,” Wylan asks as Kaz has his shoulder to him while putting files away properly.
“What?” Kaz says almost distractedly.
“...you’ve never said why you wear gloves all the time,” Wylan hedges.
Kaz looks up and over at him. “...that’s irrelevant to the task at hand,” he says stiffly.
“I know,” Wylan agrees. “I’m still asking.” He hands Kaz another, smaller stack of files. They’re getting to the end of them.
“...well, get used to not knowing,” Kaz says harshly.
Wylan doesn’t blink or flinch at the sudden abrasive tone Kaz is using. He’s found a slightly sore subject of Kaz’s, he thinks. “Okay. Maybe instead of that, you should get used to telling your friends your secrets,” he suggests lightly. “It might be good for you emotionally."
Kaz freezes, his hands stiff and handing off his tense arms. Then he pretends he didn’t just freeze, working diligently on the files he’s organizing in some specific way.
Kaz still doesn’t say a thing more. He just gestures to Wylan to hand him the last of the stack of files.
Wylan doesn’t push him any further right now.Or,
Wylan told Kaz about his most shameful secret first. Kaz now does the same thing to him.
