Kaz is about to rip his coat out of Jesper’s hands entirely so he can chase the cheater down the block, when he finally notices…him.
And oh, fuck.
Kaz stares at the man entering the shop through the doorway, looking slightly concerned about what’s going on.
Kaz wants to bleed this man dry. That’s what this feeling is. He can tell that he’s got some disposable income — come on, he’s got a full sleeve of tattoos on his right arm, and a partial sleeve on his left, and something that goes up the side of his neck from — Kaz assumes — his back. That’s proof of lots of disposable income, because none of them look like stick-and-pokes.
It has nothing to do with the fact that he’s objectively hot. Jesper will say he’s hot at some point during this incoming interaction, that’s how objectively hot this man is. Kaz is not unique in thinking that this blond man with sprawling tattoos is devilishly handsome. He’s just not.Or,
Kaz is posing as a florist for a heist. Nikolai is a tattoo artist across the street. Them meeting was not part of The Plan, but for some reason, Kaz can’t let it — or him — go.

Nikolai doesn’t necessarily mean to. He just kind of blurts it out. “I’m bisexual.”
Kaz stares at him almost blankly.
Nikolai dreads the whole time he opens his mouth, his dark eyebrows scrunching slightly.
“...I know,” Kaz says.
Nikolai blinks and jerks back.
What?
He furrows his own brow at Kaz, who just stares back at him still. “What does that mean?” Nikolai asks him point blank. How is this even possible? Is he kidding? Kaz doesn’t really make these kinds of jokes, though —
Kaz frowns. “— it means I know. I knew. I already knew that information.”
Nikolai stares uncomprehendingly at him. His furiously spinning mind screeches to a half.
Finally, after a long moment of silence between them, he asks, maybe shouting a little, “...why didn’t you tell me?”Or,
Nikolai figures out he’s bisexual. This is apparently not a surprise to Kaz.

Three days.
Kaz had wanted their honeymoon to be three days.
And Nikolai had slowly, ever so slowly, chipped away at his resolve that way he’s so good at, to convince him otherwise.
Now it’s “as long as Kaz can handle being away from work, but at least one week (seven full days)”.
And Kaz? Can’t say he’s particularly annoyed about being worn down like that.Or,
Kazolai are traveling for their (longer than average) honeymoon. Kaz has feelings he can’t decipher about the whole thing, about every little detail pertaining to it. Nikolai helps him decipher them.

“How are you doing, Brekker?” Nina asked when Inej left, and the door finally shut with a soft click. Kaz didn’t bother to look up from his work, tiredly scratching through some form or another.
“Polite of you to ask,” he muttered. Nina tilted her head, waiting for the sarcasm to come out full force. “You’re sweet to care, Zenik. I’m touched. Truly.”
“I don’t care,” Nina said loftily, though her eyes were fixed on his face. She hesitated, a little unsure if she wanted to leave this untouched or not. It somehow felt dirty to keep it a secret, though. Nina didn’t need the details, but she also wanted Kaz to know she wasn’t trying to hide anything. Taking a long breath, she continued. “But the voice in the canal asked me to make sure you’re okay.”
Or
As Nina’s corpsewitch powers grow, the voices of the dead get stronger. Sometimes, it’s painful to hear them.

Excerpt from chapter 33:
“So,” Kaz’s voice, a barely-audible rumble, finally disrupted the tension. “What have you learned about her?”
“Why would you think I had learned anything?” Inej whispered, the barest hint of a mischievous smile dimpling her cheek. “Interrogation is your area of expertise if I recall correctly.”
“Oh, I’m sure all you had to do was ask nicely and all those slavers rolled right over, freely spilling their secrets, then?” Kaz needled in response, a knowing twinkle in his eye as he switched his meal for a mug of tea.
Blowing across the top of her bowl, tone transparently ingenuine, Inej scolded, “I did not interrogate the young girl in the basement Kaz.”
“And yet, the question remains,” Kaz purred smugly between sips of hot liquid, “What have you learned about her?”
Conceding tacitly from their playful banter with a sigh, Inej offered, “She calls herself Echo.”
