Their carefree conversations pulse in Sara's mind alongside the awful sounds of screaming that she'll never be able to forget no matter how hard she tries. They remain ignorant of their daughter's suffering, they don't care to know about it.
The Death Game may not have been real, but its effect on the participants is.

It clears your hearing. Fear, for some reason, leaves when you exhale. You breathe deep in, again, and a full sense of calmness fills the space of the fear you breathe out.
The blood hadn’t covered your eye, it was coming out of it. Stupid Siffrin didn’t pay attention to the fight and lost another eye.
Or; Siffrin loses his eye in the loops. How hard can it be to get his party to guide them to a tear?
