Summary
What exactly, is he taking all these risks for? Hux cannot fathom. Each time they meet seems more vivid, more intense than the last. He thinks about those nights for months on end in the quiet moments before he sleeps and wakes up aching for more.
Hux, Poe, and the spaces in between.

“Well, I’ve got a room booked out back,” Poe says, his voice already slipping from sharp, harsh consonants to something more easy and mellow and deceptively unguarded. Hux has been the recipient of this tactic too many times to believe it to be anything more than a devious ploy to make him spill his secrets. Poe has always been better at seduction, however hopeless he might be at other sorts of things, like subtlety and political machinations.
+
He remembers reaching out with his thumb to wipe a bead of blood from the corner of Poe’s mouth, then the sharpness of Poe’s teeth as they bit down on his gloved hand, the flash of anger in him replaced almost immediately with a hot, shameful surge of lust.
+
As Dameron slowly strips him of his clothes, and then his self-control, Hux hates how much he has thought of this encounter, how he mapped out whole galaxies of touch across Poe’s body before he even received the final coordinates for their assignation.

The Resistance was simultaneously hunting down the remnants of the First Order while being in talks to resurrect some sort of interplanetary government. Poe had pulled him into many of those meetings, having disclose Hux’s role as their spy, but his presence was still met with unease at best and open hostility at worst.
It was fine, better than how he had been treated in the First Order.
+
“I want to keep it”, he whispered. It was the first time he admitted it out loud. The relief of having a choice without being compelled one way or the other, it was nearly enough to make him cry.
Poe took him by his arms with a huge grin on his face. “Guess we’ll be parents soon.” He leaned their foreheads together.

“The Emperor founded the Empire. It existed solely because of him and that’s why it ended with him.”
“It did not end.” Hux gave him a sharp look. “We’re still here. Heirs of the Empire. And you’re wrong. There was more to the Empire than Palpatine. It was an idea, a vision for the galaxy where everyone has their place and works together for a better future.”
“A better future for humans, you mean.”
“If those aliens did not like their place, they were free to leave and do better. Or accept their defeat.”

“You wanna talk about it?” Poe asks. He can see Hux staring at his worn leather boots; Hux’s own feet are bare, his bruised and bloody toes peeking out from behind bandages. His toenails are gone, his soles flogged raw.
“What information do you need?” asks Hux, tone placid, conversational.
It takes Poe a moment to realize they’re having different conversations. He wants to know how badly Hux was hurt; Hux thinks this is an interrogation.

“It’s supposed to be soothing,” he says.
One of Hux’s eyebrows lifts fractionally higher than the other.
“Calming? Relaxing? Soporific?” Poe asks, sounding him out. “Are any of these words ringing a bell for you?”
“I’m intimately familiar with rain, thank you,” says Hux, his voice crisp, his face hard. “I simply disagree with your analysis of it.”
“Let me guess, you think it’s miserable and cold?” Poe guesses. “Hey, off-topic — you ever wonder if maybe you have an attitude problem?”

In the darkness, Poe can sense Hux’s tension but can’t feel his body heat or even hear him breathing. It’s like sharing a bed with an echo of a person — a ghost. He's seen how Hux freezes when other people get close to him; the flicker of mixed fear and rage that always passes over his face when he's touched, as if he can't quite convince himself that something worse isn't coming.
“You good?” he asks, for his benefit more than Hux’s.
He gets an irritated sigh as an answer.

Summary
A good officer is a well groomed officer, and Hux holds himself to the same standards he demands from his subordinates. His hair must be coiffed. His face must be smooth-shaven. His breeches must be perfectly starched, and his greatcoat must hang so as to conceal the bulge of incubating eggs inside his abdomen.

‘For the record,’ Dameron tells him, ‘I had no idea this would happen. I don’t normally … I mean, I have no idea where the tentacles came from. I sure as hell wasn’t born with them.’
They’re alone together in an empty bunk room on the ship. Hux, giddy with the success of his scheme, has thrown caution to the wind and exposed his swollen belly to the man who swelled it. Every line of Dameron’s face says shock. But his eyes say something else. His throat bobs. ‘Can I…’
Hux nods. Carefully, as though soothing a spooked fathier, Dameron reaches out and puts a hand on Hux’s belly.

Summary
Their encounters have always been frantic, rushed, a violent clash of desire, frustration, and built-up negative energies, dulled only somewhat by the muted daze of hard liquor. There’s never been time to sit and watch and contemplate the different ways to take apart, destroy the body he’s got under his hands, and as he loops the leather straps through the headboard and pulls them tight around Dameron’s wrists, he is so overwhelmed with possibilities that he is not sure he knows where to begin.
Sequel to Lay Down Your Arms.

Bookmarker's Notes
In the end, he supposes, it came down to this: On the one hand, in the face of the violence he has committed, the death penalty seemed so pathetically insufficient a punishment that some felt they might as well not bother; on the other hand, the New Council was working hard to present itself as better than … well, better than the First Order anyway, and executing political enemies just didn’t look that good for any organization claiming to care about justice and mercy. Add to that the minor issue that he had provided the Resistance with invaluable information that might very well have helped them win the war, and killing the individual who risked his life to help the cause – well, that would have been just plain embarrassing.
+
Finn, at least, didn’t bat an eye at Dameron’s vote, which Hux took to mean that he had known it was coming. Instead, he slung his arm around Dameron’s shoulder for a brief, tight hug, and Hux could even appreciate how strategically clever this public display of unity was, once he squashed the sudden irrational, unwelcome sting of jealousy he felt at the sight.
+
“What else is in there?” Hux asks, and Dameron pulls out what looks like a tangle of sturdy leather straps, holding them out for him to see. Hux frowns in confusion. “What is that?”
Dameron lifts his left shoulder. “I thought you might want to tie me up.”
The onslaught of images that provokes is more than a little overwhelming, as is the mortified realization that Dameron has apparently been able to read his mind. He is still wrestling with his response when Dameron shrugs lightly and puts the straps on the dresser as well.
“Or not.”
“No,” Hux says hurriedly, before Dameron can decide to revoke the offer. “I mean, yes. No. I – yes. I want.”
+
Then he rests his forehead against Dameron’s abdomen, feeling it rise and fall with every deep inhale.
“Uhm,” Dameron says, sounding dazed and downright wrecked. “What was that?”
He doesn’t really seem to wait for an answer though, which is just as well, because Hux doesn’t have one for him.
+
“What life?” he hisses. “I’ve been strongly encouraged by multiple parties to leave this planet and find a remote rock at the edge of the galaxy to settle down on, and it’s not exactly like I have a lot of job opportunities lined up.”
“Then find something to do!” Dameron shouts. “If you feel bad about what happened, then do something productive and start making up for the things you did wrong. If you don’t feel guilty about it, well, then find something you enjoy that doesn’t involve explosions and stay out of people’s way. You know there’s more things you can do with yourself besides killing people and reaming my ass. I thought – “
“You thought what?” Hux sneers. “I’ll be gardening flowers on some remote rim planet, and what? You are going to drop by every other Benduday in your X-wing for a quick fuck, and no one will notice? What do you think your friends will say when they find out that you’ve been bending over for the guy who’s most famous for blowing up the Hosnian system? Cut out the bantha shit and stop lying to me, Dameron, this isn’t going to last.”
+
“You know, I told my droid about us,” Dameron says. “And Finn.”
Hux struggles, without much success, to hide his shock. “And how did that go?” he finally asks, and Dameron sighs a little.
“He doesn’t really understand, and he isn’t sure he entirely approves,” he says slowly. “But …”
“But what?” Hux asks, with a growing sense of dread.
“He’s still my friend.” Dameron shrugs. “He’s not going to tell. And he’s got my back.”
+
“Poe,” Hux starts over, after a moment of hesitation, because Dameron didn’t hit him the first time he said it, and he finds that he wants to try it again.
“Yes?” Dameron asks, without moving.
“For what it’s worth,” Hux says. “I’m –“ He pauses. There are a number of things he wants to say, but he isn’t quite sure he has the words. So he starts with the one he’s recently had the most practice with. “I’m sorry.”
this fic is everything — EVERYTHING! — to me.

Summary
“Are you flirting with me?” Hux had blurted out, too perplexed to keep his mouth under control, and Dameron had blinked slowly, as if the thought hadn’t previously occurred to him but he wasn’t entirely opposed to the idea.
“So what if I am?” he had finally said, and he had slurred his words enough to make it obvious that he was very, very drunk. (They are always drunk when they do this, and if Hux was a different, better person, perhaps that observation would give him pause.) Behind the haziness, however, Dameron’s gaze had still been perceptive and calculating, the set of his jaw issuing a challenge as much as an invitation.

Bookmarker's Notes
It’s just that he’s so tired of it all.
Tired of the uncomfortable weight of the ankle monitor that the Resistance had slapped on him in the early days after the final battle because they couldn’t figure out whether to treat him like a war criminal, a defector, or an unlikely (unlikable) hero.
Tired of being questioned for the billionth time by the representatives of five different planetary governments on his role in the destruction of the Hosnian system, as if they think he’ll eventually come up with a better answer if only they ask him often enough.
Tired of listening to politicians argue in his presence about whether he deserves the death penalty for his actions in the war, or whether his intimate knowledge of Ren’s military strategies makes him too valuable to waste on a carbon-freezing chamber.
+
Dameron just leans over the counter to flag down the barkeep again. “Key?” he asks, when the man shuffles over, and pushes more credit chips across the bar.
The barman smirks, but sticks a hand into the pocket of his apron and hands over a key fob without a word. Dameron mimics a lazy, unapologetic salute. The barkeeper snorts and waves him off before walking away.
If he knows who they are, he has never let on, despite the fact that their faces are both routinely featured on the HoloNews these days. Of course, the promise of anonymity is largely why customers seek out this crappy dive, and asking too many questions about what a former General of the First Order and a former General of the Resistance get up to in a place like this would not be good for business.
+
Dameron shudders and groans against his neck. “Been thinking all week about you fucking me,” he says hoarsely, and before Hux can even start to process those words, Dameron is pushing against his chest to create just enough space so he can slide free of their embrace and roll over onto all fours, waiting for him to catch up.
Hux slowly pushes himself up to his knees behind Dameron’s back and for a moment lets himself stare. He can never quite wrap his mind around how Dameron just offers himself up that easily, as if he’s not at all wondering whether one day he’ll end up with a knife to the back; how he’ll spread his legs and tilt his hips as if it doesn’t mean anything, as if this isn’t a form of surrender.
And perhaps it isn’t. Because for all that he’ll let Hux hold him down and fuck him senseless, Hux never really feels like he’s actually the one in control.
+
“That feels so fucking good,” he groans, arching his back. “Your cock feels so fucking good.”
Hux slaps his ass for that, just hard enough to sting. “I bet you say that to all the boys,” he says, because it would be so easy to let himself believe all the crazy things coming out of Dameron’s mouth.
“No, no,” Dameron pants, swears, shaking his head in something like desperation, “there’s no one else,” and of course he’s lying, he must be lying, but the words trigger something in Hux' brain, break down a wall he’s been so, so very careful to protect.
+
He looked up at Hux from underneath hooded eyes. “I’ve killed people too, you know.”
“Stormtroopers,” Hux huffed. “Didn’t they give you a medal for that?”
“Hey,” Dameron protested, pushing himself up straighter in his chair. “I’ll have you know that some of my best friends used to be stormtroopers.”
+
“You asked me what I want,” Hux says. His mouth is dry. “This is it. A proper bed, white sheets, and no need to keep an eye on the clock.”
Dameron looks stunned, his mouth slack, his face completely still except for a miniscule twitch in the corner of his eye, and Hux feels his stomach tighten with mortified anticipation.
But Dameron doesn’t laugh. Instead his face melts into something softer, something awfully close to compassionate, tender even, and it turns out that this is much, much worse than the merciless mocking Hux had feared.
my absolute favorite fic for this pairing.

So yes, there may have been a point where he couldn't be entirely sure whether he had just dreamed the grim expression on Rose’s face when she told him how many survivors the ground team had pulled out of the burning debris of the crashed Star Destroyer, whether he might have merely imagined the glimpse of matted red hair he caught from the corner of his eye as the medics carried yet another stretcher past the command center through the cave towards the Tantive IV.

But there's no way for Hux to know that Poe's worst dreams are not the ones in which he dies himself. The nightmares that leave him gasping for air and shaken for hours are the ones that force him to relive the deaths of his friends over and over again, and it is always, always his fault.
He doesn't talk about it with Finn, or Rey, or Kaydel, not since he realized that none of them quite understand. Of course they've all suffered loss, they are all wrestling with their own demons – but none of them know what it was like to send his friends into battle, to shout commands, only to see them get picked out of the sky, see them explode, hear their anguished screams over the comm, all the while knowing that they wouldn't be dead if he hadn't told them to go.
For a moment, he thinks about saying it out loud. Hux has given such orders, he knows, has sent people to die under his command.
But Hux would likely laugh at him and tell him that he never cared.

“Get on the bed,” Poe said. “I’d rather fuck you.”
Hux lifted an eyebrow. “Maybe I don’t feel like it.”
“I’m calling this, remember.” Before Hux could get out his protest, Poe slapped his face again, backhanded, hard.
Maybe a bit too hard because Hux swore and spat blood onto his palm.
“Sorry!” Poe exclaimed, falling onto his knees and tilting Hux’s chin up to look at him. His cheek was so, so red and he pushed Poe’s hand away.
“Leave it,” Hux insisted, his accent going a little funny, the words thick.
“You bit your tongue,” Poe realized. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it to hurt that much.”
“I’m fine!” Hux said, wiping his palm on Poe’s shirt. “For fuck’s sake, Dameron, you’re an asshole but I don’t need your weak attempts at mothering.”
“Okay, okay, damn, sorry for trying to not be a dick. Didn’t realize that would offend you.”
“I’m not here for kindness,” Hux gritted out.

“So not even a tiny part of you would like it if I wrapped my fingers in your hair and pulled you where I wanted you, if I held you in place?”
There was a flush burning in Poe’s cheeks. Hux absolutely couldn’t know that Poe got off on the hair pulling thing, there was no way, he was just grasping at straws. “Honestly I think you’re just getting off on the idea of me blowing you.”
“I am,” Hux said, and Poe’s sense of control over where this situation was going all drained away. “I’d love to shut your mouth with my cock, quite honestly.”
“That’s… that’s…”
“There are quite a lot of things I’d like to do you, Commander Dameron. Filthy, filthy things.”
“Kriffing hell,” Poe said.
“Shall I tell you?” Hux asked, and that pompous accent shouldn’t sound this weirdly sexy.
Part of Poe knew that Hux was playing with him, just like Poe had been doing this whole time, but the rest of him couldn’t be bothered. “So what do you get off on, General Hux?”
“I’d like to know what else your mouth is good for besides constantly running off. I’d like to curl my hand at the back of your neck while my cock bumps up against the back of your throat,” Hux said, and Poe made a choked noise that made Hux laugh. “Yes, I imagine you’d sound just like that.”
“I’m not sure you should trust me with my mouth on your dick. I might bite it off.”
“Really? You strike me as the sort who enjoys to please.”

Don’t go falling for every man who looks at you like you’re something precious, Red, he hears the Slicer say from wherever he is, whenever he is and no, Hux thinks. This isn’t that. This is just about human fucking contact. About not thinking, about not caring, about, about, about –
And he won’t let it be more.
Dameron is close to him now. Very, very close. “My name is Poe Dameron; my eyes are brown and I don’t really want to kiss you right now.”
“You don’t want to kiss me,” Hux says eventually, his mouth very dry. “That’s the lie.”
Dameron’s nod is almost imperceptible. “Your turn, Hux.”
Hux closes his eyes. Shuts out the roar of the fleet – his fleet – crashing and burning, the groan of metal, the crackle of flame, the muted cries of shock, of pain. Shuts out the withered Emperor, Pryde’s cold gaze, his father’s laughter, Rae’s disappointment, Phasma falling, dying, the Slicer laughing at him, with him, at him. Shuts out the thud of his heart, the chant of traitor, traitor, traitor.
“I’d let you; I’d let you; I’d – ”
