    Shane is in a post-game interview when his world stops.

    He’s just answered a question about Montreal’s offensive strategy going into the game. Clean passes, avoid penalties, draw defenders wide. It had worked and the Voyagers had beat Colorado soundly, 4-1. Shane had scored two of the goals and assisted on a third.

    Usually, Shane would be eager to boast about the win to Ilya. But ever since their fight- since Ilya told Shane to leave- winning feels hollow. Losing feels better, somehow. As if Shane deserves to lose after being so selfish. Ilya gave up everything for him- his home, his team, and to some extent- his happiness. Hockey. Ilya gave up hockey- good hockey- for Shane.

    A ripple goes through the room of reporters. Shane swears he hears the word ‘Ottawa’ and ‘crash’. But no one is paying attention to him anymore.

    “What’s going on?” he asks into the microphone, feeling strange at the role reversal. Usually, he’s the one being asked questions.

    No one answers. And this time he knows that he hears the word ‘Ottawa’ and ‘Centaurs’.

    Shane rushes to Ilya after the almost plane crash. Their secret is no longer a secret.

    During the events of Age of Ultron, Sam is in Eastern Europe searching for Bucky Barnes, when he gets a call to come home to Louisiana, to his sister, who has just lost her husband. Unfortunately, due to the global threat from Ultron, all planes have been grounded.
    Sam's only hope to get home is to trust the very man he had been sent to find.

     

    “Get up,” said Barnes. Voice even. “We’re getting you home.” 

    Sam rose without thinking. He hated that he did, but the word home had woken up the last coiled hope inside him.  

    Barnes turned and moved away. He didn’t look back, didn’t slow. No request to follow.  

    Sam just stood there with his bag slung over his shoulder, frozen to the spot; every muscle caught between bolting and advancing.

    But Sam is looking at him with lidded eyes and a soft little smile on his lips. It feels private. Like a smile that’s been saved just for him, out of all the people in the world Sam could smile at like that. Feels like that moment in the bar when their eyes met and it was just the two of them, like the rest of the world fell away and Sam was the only thing that mattered. And it’s – Bucky should be terrified. Probably is terrified, if he stops and thinks about it. But it’s just Sam. Just the person Bucky cares about most in the world.

    Sam’s gaze flickers down. It takes Bucky a second to realize – oh, he’s staring at my lips – and then a dizzying rush of heat floods through him. Makes him feel alive in a way he hasn’t felt in so long. Makes him want to lean in, to see what Sam tastes like, how soft his lips are. Wants to see what noise he’d make if Bucky just - just surprised him and leaned forward and –

    He’s leaning forward. Closing the distance between them. So slowly, achingly slowly, but it’s –

    He can’t. He just –

    Can’t.

    (Not yet, at least. Not until he works up the courage. But he tells himself that for now it's enough, just being next to him, just being his friend.)

    Shane, for the record, is alive and really confused.
