Grief is just a room you learn to live in. For eight years, Dennis made it a home. He painted the walls, rearranged the furniture the way he liked it and he left the door unlocked just in case. For whatever came next.
Eight Julys ago Michael Robinavitch walked out of the Pitt, got on his motorcycle and never came back, and each one since has been a reminder of the anniversary he couldn't mourn and the start he couldn't escape—new interns, new students, new faces filling the same old halls. Not his, never his again.
Then John Carter walked through the door.
And Dennis realized he'd never actually decided if he wanted to move on. Move out.

Sequel to "The Driver, the Shadow, the Hearse". I strongly recommend reading it before starting this.

It's October 2026, and Robby's back from his sabbatical. Order has been restored. In other news, after years of stolen glances across the trauma bay and opposite shifts, Halloween becomes the perfect set up for Jack and Samira to take the leap of faith.
The Pitt's party is winding down. She's in a cheap Red Riding Hood costume. He threw on a flannel and called it a Wolf. Their costumes become permission— he calls her "Red", she calls him "Wolf" and the fairytale archetypes give them something to hide behind what they actually want... for a time. When she asks him to walk her home, they both know exactly where this is going.
Or: a modern, smutty retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, feat. Mohabbot roleplay sex.

Months later, Dennis does a little divine freelance work on a dying patient and his body immediately decides to reboot the whole system. Cue the world's most intimate, messy and hormonally charged system update. His attending (now roomate, see: still hot, and now permanently devoted.) helps him through a full-body metaphysical molt that's equal parts sacred ritual and really awkward boners.
