Everyone around him has a soulmate. They can all see in color. He can't. He doesn't believe in soulmates, doesn't believe in love at all. When enough people tell you what love should look like, when you're told enough times that you should be able to see in color but you can't, you start to believe that you don't have a soulmate after all. And that's okay.
At least, it was, until Andrew makes eye contact with a stranger at Eden's and the world comes to a screeching halt.

Known colloquially as the “Trauma candy salad” trend, participants bring a candy of their choosing and dump it into a shared bowl while they share something traumatizing from their past. The videos can range from light-hearted and funny to downright concerning, but one recent viral iteration of the trend takes the cake: the Palmetto State Exy team has posted a version of their own to their sporadically active TikTok account, one that can only be described as bizarre. In the rare case you somehow haven’t seen the aptly-dubbed PR nightmare as it steadily continues to gain views, we have helpfully attached a full transcript below, as well as a link to the video itself (if the link doesn’t work, just assume it’s been taken down—we’re surprised it hasn’t been already!)

Will swallows, eyes focused pointedly on Mike’s long, slender fingers. The way they twist and they pull, fixing the broken strap to Will’s backpack.
Will Byers loved when Mike fixed things for him.
It was becoming a problem.
He didn’t mean to start doing it, but it just… happened. Maybe he was using Mike’s kindness against him, but it was difficult not to, and Will couldn’t feel too badly about it when Mike looked down at him with lidded eyes, one hand dragging up along Will’s side, voice sweet. “Better?”
“Yeah,” Will murmurs, grabbing the bag with trembling fingers. “Yeah, it’s better.”
Or, Will comes up with a plan that could benefit the both of them. Mike gets to be a hero in every day life, and Will? He gets to have Mike's attention.

“Oh, no,” Mike says, sounding like it might be the first time ever in his life that he is genuinely disappointed about this fact. He shifts and grabs the stack of flyers, sort of waving them through the air. “These are just for this game I play?” The inflection on the end of what should be a statement makes it sound more like a hesitant question.
“And in this one, you act like you’re… vampires?”
Or: To get out of the sexual rut he’s stuck in, Popular!Will gets dared to ask out Nerd!Mike and ends up attending a Vampire the Masquerade LARP where they proceed to put the ‘role-play’ into ‘live action role-play.’
