“Blackmail? No.” There’s a scoff. “Not real sure what this is yet, t’ be honest. I was plannin’ on shootin’ ya and bein’ done with it but it looks like someone else got to ya first.”
Tim’s smile is brittle at best. “If you don’t know what this is,” he says with all the cold calm instilled in him by Janet Drake. “then perhaps you should come back later. I have animals to feed, Mr…?”
“Red Hood.”
He makes a polite sound, as if that’s as normal a name as any.

Whatever, it hardly matters at this point. He’s already gone over the possibilities. Right now, this is his only choice, the only way to escape being taken and used by Ra’s al Ghul as a weapon against everything he holds dear.
He bites his lip, stifles what feels suspiciously like a sob, and then triggers the last resort mechanism inside his false tooth just as a little click sounds and a muffled boom lights the world on fire.

Red Hood’s eyes snap open and he realizes two things in quick succession. First, if this is a hallucination, it’s sure as fuck a vivid one. Every detail of the warehouse interior surrounding him, from the blood spatters on the floor to the crazed glint in the Joker’s eye, is exactly like he remembers from the night he died.
Second, there’s a goddamn kid lying on the ground, curled on his side braced against the coming blow. Everything’s exactly the same…
Except the red hair, that’s new. Definitely an alternate universe, then. At least it isn’t time travel, Hood fucking hates time travel.

Sighing, Tim rubs his face. Holidays in Gotham are terrible. Especially Halloween. This is only the first Saturday in October, so they should’ve had at least a few more weeks of relative peace. “I know we can never have a normal Halloween, not in this city, but does the crazy really have to start earlier and earlier every year?”
“Yep,” a deep voice says from right behind him. “Because Gotham’s an actual goddamn hellmouth.”
Tim’s pretty sure he manages not to jump. A loud snort followed by a low chuckle raises a flicker of doubt about that conclusion. Whatever. It’s like three in the morning, the Joker’s loose in Gotham, and there is an actual freaking vampire cleaning the bric-a-brac in the parlor right now—he’s allowed to be a little jumpy.
Stupid Jason.

When Jason gets back up to his perch, he sighs and lets himself enjoy the soft, warm night breeze for a moment before digging into his own messy portion of currywurst. Fuck, it’s so good. After a few bites, he looks over at the hotel, and freezes.
Drake is sitting by the window again. He’s eating the dinner Jason gave him.
Suddenly, Jason is very aware of his own lips, tingling and sensitized by the spice. As he watches, Drake’s pretty lips close over the fork Jason gave him, the one he had in his own mouth not five minutes ago.
It’s not a kiss, not really, but…
It’s the closest Jason’s ever come to one. Fuck, he hopes like hell he doesn’t end up having to off this guy.

Tim wakes up in the Cave and opens his eyes. He glances around, his heart seizing at what he sees. The cup of coffee Alfred set at his elbow earlier is gone. Based on the undisturbed layer of dust which blankets the surface of the desk, it looks like it was never there in the first place.
“No,” he whispers, throat tightening. This isn’t right.
The feeling that he is somewhere else, somewhere he isn’t supposed to be, grows exponentially as he takes in a hundred tiny differences in his surroundings, from the level of the Batcomputer tech to the contours of the chair he’s sitting in. This wasn’t supposed to happen.
He realizes with a growing sense of horror that if he’s fallen into a new universe again—this time without the impetus of having recently activated the device—then there’s no guarantee it won’t happen again. And again.
Oh, god.

One by one, realizations tumble into place like dominoes. Todd was once taken from them by a wicked monster, which sent his father into a terrible period of mourning for years. Almost like a curse upon their family…
Perhaps… Todd has yet to be truly saved? The state of his relationship with the family, and Damian’s father in particular, does seem to leave much to be desired.
Wide-eyed, Damian continues to stare after them for a long while, struck speechless by the realization—Todd is a Disney princess.
Damian has a lot of work to do.
