when a classroom encounters one misfortune, it's simply a fact of life. when it's two, it's an awful coincidence. when it's four different events, happening in succession, it's a curse. dr. ratio, a physics professor, never believed in things like curses. yet after the fifth misfortune ends in a suicide, he begins to fear that perhaps something truly sinister is afoot or maybe he's also losing his mind. at his wit's end, he takes stelle's recommendation to meet with aventurine, a "private investigator".

Summary
