"Tauriel throws the wipe away, picking up the syringe. She uncaps it, giving him a pitying look, “You can look away if you want to baby.”
“I know,” he says, though he does not move his gaze. Kili watches as Tauriel pushes the stopper on the syringe until the fluid beads out. He bites his lip, worrying it between his teeth. He can feel his leg betray him, moving again."

The winner receives a cash prize, as well as any wish of his granted. Frodo is determined to win, not just for him, but for his family.

"A knock rings against his car, an armed soldier motioning for them to get out with his carbine. They do so, Bilbo walking over to his son.
Frodo hugs him, “I know you don’t want me to do this Papa, but I have to. For Ada.”
Bilbo’s eyes sting with tears as he shakes his head, “You don’t have to do anything,” he hisses, “you don’t have anything to prove. Your father loved you. If he was here…” he hiccups, interrupting himself, “Well, you know what he’d say if he was here.”"
