Logan made it to the parking lot. Rain was still falling. It ran off the brim of his hat and down his neck; it bounced off the woman’s umbrella, a halo of light around her, backlighting her into an indistinct shape as she turned towards him, a featureless head in the dark. Then she put the umbrella down behind her head, blocking the light from behind, and in the dim green-blue light of the street signals he saw her face and the silver streak in her hair and he knew her, knew the shape of that distinct mouth, those dark eyes.
Even though time had slimmed her face, sharpened her jaw and cheeks— he knew her. He would have known her if he’d been blind. He would have recognized her breathing: the texture of her steps on asphalt, on grass, on wood floors, on earth.
“Rogue?” he whispered, unsteady.

If there was one thing about her that he could never get over, it was the simple fact that she'd been there. There'd been no reason for a teenage runaway from Nowhere, Mississippi to end up in an underground fighting bar in Alberta on a cold early spring night looking for a ride. He'd known her now for six years and this entire time they'd both brought up that night every chance they'd had, trying to convince each other that it had actually happened. It wasn't a history lesson, taught in a classroom. It was a legend, retold around the fire. That against all odds, she'd ended up in that rathole and walked into that bar. Of all the freaking gin joints.

Summary
I’m driven once more to my sketchbook and word-weary pencil. I write this here and now, so that my resolve might have meaning.
I was wrong to believe that no one would ever cherish the dark side of my heart. But I was right to believe it would be no soul living.
In a few moments, I’ll put aside these frail tools of the artist’s trade. I’ll be faithful to the promise on my mother’s grave.
I glance up at the clock one last time. In the abrupt and deafening silence, I’m amazed. The clock has stopped ticking.
[This is a substantial copy-edit and revision of a novel-length story I wrote in 2000, back when I was an undergraduate. Since all iterations of Beetlejuice are going through a renaissance thanks to the musical these past few years, I decided it was time to give this story its due and put it on AO3.]

Or, the romantic comedy where Dean Winchester and Jo Harvelle are destined to get married, Castiel is given the task of playing matchmaker and fails terribly, the entire Heavenly Host becomes a sitcom audience, God warns against male pregnancy, and Jimmy Novak is incredibly unimpressed with angels in general.
