Soushirou's eyelids fluttered open despite its weight, the edges of his vision still blurry enough that he couldn't make out a single feature of the figure staring him down. Their silence told him that it wasn't someone from the Defense Force, nor was it a lost civilian. Who are you… what are you doing here…? He wanted to ask, yet once Soushirou narrowed his eyes at them, everything turned still as his breath was stolen away.
No. No. There's no way.
But then, if his eyes weren't playing tricks on him, this could only mean one thing.
Voice a mere whisper, fragile enough to be broken by a gust of air, was followed by a weak smile— yet it was the brightest it had ever been for a while. "Gen... are you... here to take me with you?”

He wasn’t opaque like a living person. His edges shimmered faintly, his outline soft and translucent. But it was him — the same tousled hair, the same casual slouch, the same impossible, familiar presence that Hoshina had thought he’d never see again.
