Summary
Gwaine challenges anyone in Camelot not to have had the occasional flight of fancy about one of their famous knights swooping in to save them, all shining armor and tousled hair, or the wish of being courted by such a noble suitor, or even just a night, one night, to find out what's really underneath all that armor. Their knights are the stuff of legends, after all, and bards are commonplace in a tavern, can he be blamed for how he listens to them? Especially working in a tavern so close to the citadel itself, where the knights will actually come and drink during their evenings, well, that's just like putting a fresh pie on the counter and expecting it to be there when he returns.
And if there's one knight in particular that happens to occupy Gwaine's mind more than any other, well, that's between him and his thoughts.

He’s got one hand locked around the back of Ellie’s neck, fingertips gripping hard enough that even from here Joel can tell she’ll have bruises.
His other hand is pressing a thin blade against the front of her throat.
He nods at the gun in Joel’s hands. “Drop it.”

Summary
On the sixth snatched lunch, he decides to wait and watch. It’s childish, but they’d finally had help in so work had gone quickly enough that he could work on making cuts for the cabinet framing.
And it just so happens to offer the perfect viewpoint to watch his lunch bag on the passenger side of his truck without being immediately visible.
He waits in the hours before lunch ready for a fight, ready to storm out and confront his little shit of a little brother. He knows it’s Tommy. He knows it.
And then a little head with a brown ponytail sticks out of a bush, and he starts to wonder what he knows after all.
The girl looks around furtively, darts forward, jumps up to get her arm over the open window, makes a basket of her shirt, shakes out the contents, tosses the bag back in, and darts off, disappearing into the bushes once more.
All while he stands on the sidelines, saw still in hand.

“Maybe we should see if a doctor can stop by,” he says at the same time she says “No no no no.”
He sighs and sits beside her carefully. He rests a hand on the back of her head, and despite herself, it’s soothing.
“Just to make sure nothing’s wrong,” he says in a calm, reasonable tone that doesn’t do anything but wind her up. “We can-”
“It’s a period,” she says flatly. “It’s just a bad one.”
“Ell-”
“Do you have a uterus?” She demands. “No? Shut the fuck up then.”
It’s way more aggressive than she’d usually get with him, but there’s no goddamn way she’s going to the clinic, especially just to have a doctor laugh at her for being freaked out by a period.
It took her weeks to get out of the hospital in Salt Lake, and that was for the sake of creating the cure they brought back with them.
Hopping right back into another one? And for some stupid period cramps?
No fucking way.
