Summary
When Stede finds Ned, its a shock. He had been certain the man was dead by his own hand, and the last thing he expected was to find him alive and in this little port town he was just passing through.
He remembers Ned as being arrogant, cocky, domineering. Used to having control and power, laughingly dishing out torture, cruel and petty and terrible, and he half thinks that's what he'll see when he calls out to him in spite of everything. When Ned turns, its unmistakably him, but there's nothing of his old self there, just a faintly wary confusion that turns to hesitant hope.
Ned doesn't know anything, and it isn't pity, though maybe that should be all that it is, given the way they had met, but its more like sympathy, commiseration. Because Ned is alone with nothing to his name, and Stede can relate.

Stede and Ed separate after the Republic and Ricky and leaving the Revenge, and while wandering on his own, Stede finds a still-alive Ned Low, without any of his memories. Of course, he invites him along.
