And unlike others, his master didn't have to fear his pet slipping something into his drink to subdue or outright kill him. robert is not his father, or like so many other heroes: he does not need to be special to everyone, does not need every person to laud him or his work. all robert wants is to be special to one person. that's it. he just desires one person who can see past mecha man, past the hand-me-down name, past the hurt, the trauma, and mess— and likes what they see, and thinks it's worth the "trouble" of dealing with.
he never thought he would find that, in a person like jay. but then again, how could it ever have been anyone else but him?
