Summary
Eddie watched Buck die on top of that ladder, he watched buck fall and hang there like he was suspended in a place between the living and the dead. Once Buck made it to the hospital, Eddie knew he wouldn't wake up and that whatever made Buck "Buck" was gone. Eddie also realized that he was in love with his best friend, obviously too late. Eddie can't manage another loss, being left alone again without his other half.

TLDR: The lightning strike happened, Buck is in his coma and Eddie spirals. It leads to the suicidal thoughts, which Eddie has had in the past, and an attempt.

It was Eddie’s turn to cut her off. “No. Buck wouldn’t do that,” Eddie rushed out. A new wave of nausea was making his throat tingle. “He wouldn’t.”
“Wouldn’t he?” Maddie’s voice was practically inaudible.
Eddie desperately sifted through his memories, looking for answers. Almost right away, he could list several occasions Buck put himself on the line. He knew about the time he recklessly crashed on his motorcycle, and he always took risks on the job. Buck never valued his life the way Eddie did.
Maddie was right. It wasn’t Buck’s first attempt. Eddie wasn’t even sure if it was his second, third, or fourth.
“Wait—” Eddie took a breath, trying so hard not to lose his mind. “You said it was three weeks ago. Why are you just telling me now?”
“He didn’t tell me,” Maddie added. He could tell she was crying now.
Eddie’s heart broke into a thousand pieces. “He didn’t—”
“He didn’t tell anyone, Eddie."

Evan looked over to the woman, noting that she was beautiful, something about his inner child stirring.
“I um—I don’t know.”
Taking notes, the nurse then turned his attention to the fluffy haired man. The guy had deep brown eyes like chocolate, hints of green scattered within them; Evan couldn’t look away from them. Something about the man tugged at his heartstrings, though he couldn’t decipher why.
“I uh—I don’t know who any of you are, to be honest.”

Buck scoots down and snuggles into the pillows, his lips still stretched in a tiny smile that makes Eddie’s heart flip for a whole different reason. “No, I’m okay. Thank you. But, uhm –”
“What is it?”
“Would you maybe sit with me for a little longer?”
Eddie makes a gentle sound in the back of his throat and immediately lowers his body into the chair he and Chim dragged into the bedroom a few days ago. “You don’t even have to ask, Buck. I’ll be here. You can go to sleep.”
“Thanks, Eds,” Buck says again, his voice breathy as his lashes flutter softly before he promptly falls asleep.
Sleep has been a rare occasion for Buck lately, the withdrawals making him sick and achy and despite the bone-deep exhaustion also restless and oftentimes too anxious to sleep. So, whenever he manages to get a few hours, Eddie and the others watch over him in sheer relief.
Or a 9x15 coda in which Eddie worries, watches over Buck, and stays the night.

Eddie gasps out another breath of relief and hugs Christopher tighter, trying to dig himself out of the pit in his stomach, the one he’d been falling deeper and deeper into for the brief moment where he’d thought Christopher was gone.
For a moment, his heart soars, because his son is alive and Buck is alive, and they’re both right here, and they’re both okay, and he can see Chim and Bobby and Hen gathering around Buck. His heart soars.
And then Buck collapses, and Eddie’s heart slams right back into the dirt.
