David starts walking at night.
He’s able to distract himself throughout the day, inventing perfunctory tasks and avoiding people he runs into in town. But at night…at night, it feels like the hotel is smothering him, pressing the air out of his lungs.
He needs to get out.
He used to walk in New York sometimes, usually late at night, a zigzag across the avenues instead of calling an Uber after a hookup. Schitt’s Creek feels different. He’s never seen this many stars, to start, and the crickets are pounding in his skull. But he can breathe a little easier as he paces around the block, so he keeps walking.

A second goes by that she’s quiet, and Patrick almost calls her name again, patience wearing thin, before she speaks again.
“You don’t have to worry about me,” she says, finally.
