“Okay,” Dream says. He knows what that means. He’s been out of prison for two weeks, and a lot of things are different, but he’s still well-trained enough to understand.
Techno is stressed. It’s because of him. It’s only natural, then, that he would want some relief.

Dick is haunted by the ghost of Grant Wilson.
Yes, like his actual ghost. No, he’s not lying, why the hell would he lie about something like that, Slade? Slade, come back. Seriously? You’ve met aliens, you’ve literally entered the speed force, but you draw the line at believing in ghosts?

Summary
Jason has spent the last six years working as a hooker for Roman Sionis, but when he gets picked up by Slade Wilson, he finally has the chance to make enough money to get out of Gotham for good. He just has to survive the weekend with Slade; without pissing off any mob bosses, or letting Roman figure out his plan to escape.
Easy enough.
Except that Slade is making things hard, in more ways than one. Charming and self-assured; Jason can't help falling for him. Not that it matters. Jason is leaving Gotham after this final job.
No matter what.

“We don’t have to—I didn’t want to make it a thing,” Jason said, then immediately rolled his eyes. “Okay, maybe I did want to make it a little bit of a thing. Father’s Day gift and all.”
“This is . . . more than a gift,” Bruce said thickly.
“Yeah, well. You’re hard to shop for, old man. Can’t exactly get you socks.”
In which Jason gives Bruce his Father’s Day gift early. So he can get ahead of the competition, of course.

He didn’t know the answer. He’d stopped needing one a long time ago. But the question still lived inside him—not an open wound, but an old scar that sometimes ached when the weather changed.
as a guy named jason with a deeply complicated yet positive relationship to his parents and currently applying to mfa programs for creative writing there is no scenario in which your jtodd father’s day fics aren’t going to wreck my SHIT. my god. nothing more healing for the soul than jason todd allowed to grow up and recover and want things and then allow himself to have them. every time i see that you’ve written another jason bruce piece in this universe i jump for joy. there’s excerpts from one of these in my journal. just know u have reached into my chest directly and touched my soul

“Do you think I could get in?” Jason asked before he could stop himself.
Bruce turned toward him.
“I mean, not now,” Jason went on, feeling heat prickle behind his ears. “Obviously. After I get my SAT and all that. Do you think they’ll let me in if I stop sounding like a kid from Gotham’s worst ZIP code?”
Bruce gave him a flat look. “You’d get in on your writing alone.”
In which Jason drags Bruce to a campus tour. Against all odds, no one dies of boredom.

Bookmarker's Notes
oh these two are so near and dear to my heart it makes me evil. the space between them was technically less than a foot but it felt like it spanned years.
that boy loved college so much he went on a tour at fourteen and he rounded it up to fifteen because he didn’t know he’d never make it to his birthday. he wrote comic scripts in his history notes and he wanted a useless degree because it burned inside of him and he would finally have something that was entirely his to hold and have.
he doesn’t know yet that he’s going to grow up and haunt the hallways of the manor and when he turns 25 bruce will want nothing more than to have him live there forever, yelling about comma splices, because he was never supposed to speak again at all. you said it was a dumb plan not that you didn’t want it. the college seats were too big for him and when he comes back they will be too small — he will never fit in them the way he’s supposed to, the way everybody else does.
—
He didn’t know exactly when the idea had started gnawing at him. Maybe it had been back when his mom was still alive, when he’d read that dumb short story in English class and realized he had opinions about metaphor. Maybe after that one week he spent trying to write a comic book script in his history notebook and accidentally turned it into a thirty-page fever dream. Maybe it was just because he wanted something that was his, something that wasn’t patrol schedules and case files and worrying if he was screwing up the Robin thing every night.
But once he’d realized he wanted it, he couldn’t shake it.
College. Lit degree. Writing. It sounded stupid every time he said it in his head.
He wanted it anyway.—
“I’m a billionaire,” Bruce said, so seriously that Jason glanced up at him, snorting.
“I can’t just mooch off you forever. If I do, I’ll end up thirty and still living in the manor, yelling about comma splices.”
Bruce looked like he was holding back a smile. “You say that like it’s a threat.”
Jason grinned. “I’m not even kidding, B. I’ll sleep in the attic. Haunt the hallways. Write bad poetry. Alfred will have to slide food under my door.”
“I think he already budgeted for that.”—
“I just said—”
“You said it was a dumb plan,” Bruce cut in. “Not that you didn’t want it.”
Jason looked away again, swallowing hard. He didn’t know how to explain it—how close the wanting felt. How he wanted it so badly that it already hurt. How the more he let himself think about it, the more fragile it felt.—
And the same stupid bulletin board was still overflowing with flyers and calls for submissions. Writing contests. Poetry slams. Editorial internships. Literary zines with obnoxiously clever names.
Jason stared at it for a long moment, letting the words blur. -

Summary
Bruce, predictably, is saying nothing. It’s a very productive nothing, that is saying quite a lot, quite loudly.
“Go make that face somewhere else,” Dick tells him. “It’s not helpful.”
“I’m not making a face,” Bruce says, lying baldly.
“You are making a face,” Jason tells Bruce.
“It’s not my fault there’s a ghost,” Dick says, arms crossed over his chest like he wants to pout but knows he’s too old for it.
“I know,” Bruce tells Dick.
“So stop making a face at me about the ghost!”
“I’m right here,” the ghost says. -

Tim looked down at Jason—the Red Hood, the deadliest thing a Bat was allowed to ally himself with—wearing nothing but a faceful of makeup, tight black boxer-briefs, a collar, and a leash, and decided that perhaps he’d been hit too hard on the head during his last dust-up with Harley Quinn.

“He wonders if she would see his mother in his eyes, had she ever known her.” jesus CHRIST. would he look like his mother to her the same way he looked like his mother to jack. would he look like his mother to her the same way his mother looked like a victim of jack drake to him. would he look like his mother to her the way he looks like a drake to the rest of the world. would he look like his mother to her the way that his mother looks dead in the ground.
