Summary
Ilya always knew Shane preferred keeping his weaknesses to himself. They were hockey players, it was no surprise that he would downplay anything that could get in the way of his image. Shane Hollander was a well-oiled machine, who certainly never broke, and after all these years it was a special kind of challenge to get him to open up. Ilya always poked and prodded for answers, hell it was the only way, but pushing only got him so far. Eventually, he would come up behind Shane with a soft voice and strong arms around his waist, assuring him that he could trust him, that they were husbands, that he wanted Shane to feel safe to come to him. However, sometimes Shane couldn’t be moved, but neither could Ilya. Shane liked to hide, and when he thought Ilya might be the least bit concerned with an issue, he would stalk around behind closed doors or pretend like it wasn’t a big deal, but unfortunately Shane had married the most perceptive man in the NHL.

Summary
Shane almost startles himself half to death when he looks up and Ilya’s standing there, glaring at him.
“Jesus Christ,” Shane swears, slamming his laptop closed. “Ilya. What the fuck?”
“Woke up and you are not in bed,” Ilya glares at him, blanket draped over his shoulders. His curls are sticking up in every direction, nose red, and he looks adorable, completely ruining the point of his hazy glaring.
“Sorry, baby,” Shane says, biting back a smile. He puts his laptop on the side table, sitting up to make place for Ilya on the couch. “Why’re you up?”
“I told you,” Ilya grumbles, shuffling forward. “Woke up. Bed empty. No boyfriend.”
or, ilya can't fall asleep without shane anymore.

Summary
Shane ran with a fury – channeling every ounce of shame, anger, hurt, and disdain he possessed. He ran with a purpose: to catalogue every misstep and maintain his stamina.
Each time he replayed the interaction or thought of Ilya alone again in his cottage, he bit down harder on his lip and ran faster, feet slamming against the trail.
A guttural cry pierced the air as Shane fell to the ground, the dense dirt leaving burn marks on the skin of his elbows. For one terrifying second, his vision went white, his lungs forgot how to expand, and he lay motionless, face pressed into the earth.
He thought of the fight he’d had with Ilya, his own voice echoing in his head: “This is who I am. You know that. I give everything I have to hockey.”
He was Shane Hollander: the best player in the MLH; he was fine, he told himself – he didn't need Ilya.
It was a lie.

Summary
Ilya knows that no one loves the same version of a person; his Shane is different to Yuna’s Shane, who is different to David’s Shane, who is different to J.J., or Rose, or Hayden’s Shane. And while Ilya knows he’d fall in love with every single version, he’s happy he gets this one. Happy he gets the Shane who lets himself be trusting, and vulnerable, and honest.
It makes Ilya wish he could have loved Shane earlier - makes him wish he could have known him longer. But he’s just glad he gets to do it now, here, like this.
(Or, four times people are surprised by Shane’s clinginess, and one time they completely expect it.)

“It’s a deal,” says Barrett, “we’re confident you won’t be able to win this.”
Hayes turns his head and points, “and there’s your target, now, Roz!”Or, Ilya enters into a bet with his team that he can get Shane Hollander to ask him to be his boyfriend within a month.
