Now, here’s the thing: Kendall is the real schemer amongst them. The king of pranks and mischief incarnate. James’s plan is... not quite so intricate. What he does is simply stroll up to his goofing-off friends, and tell Kendall, “I need you to come on stage and do the opening song for me.”
He gets laughter in response; they think he’s kidding. Sweet, naive fools.

James left Hawk. James gave up a sure-fire shot at becoming famous, for a maybe. He decided to risk it all in order to keep singing with his best friends, and Kendall cannot let him down.
There’s just the small problem of him having appendicitis right when they’re meant to be doing the concert that will make or break their careers.

Summary
As quickly as he can currently handle, Jinu reassesses his situation with the new information in mind. He discovers three things he didn’t fully realize before.
One, something is definitely broken. Probably a rib, or three, or five. His ribcage feels like it’s screaming at him for so much as trying to breathe.
Two, that hit might’ve killed him if he weren’t a demon, or at least done a lot more damage. But Jinu is pretty sure he’s not actively dying so, at least he’s got that going for him.
And three, his disguise is still up. Jinu is particularly happy about that one. Getting hit by a car isn’t fun regardless but at least he doesn’t have to deal with headlines like, ‘Jinu of the Saja Boys: Hospitalized after taking a bad hit from a speeding car! Saja Boys fans are out for blood!’
(Or Jinu gets hit by a car. He tries to sleep it off. Huntrix keeps making a big deal out of it though.)

“I have to admit,” said Mira with a smirk, “your new duet is going to be a banger.” She flicked her freshly dyed magenta hair over her shoulder. The sheen of the strands caught the glow from the dimmed stage lights.
“When you guys debut the song tonight, everyone will love it. I know it,” Zoey added with an enthusiastic nod. She was dressed in cargo pants and a comfortable black shirt, not nearly as ruffled looking from her own practice session as Jinu thought she ought to have looked.
Jinu’s mouth was dry. “But—”
From beside him, a soft, melodic laugh interrupted his chaotic thoughts. He glanced to his right, seeing Rumi as if for the first time.
