Someone had cast a sectumsempra on him. The Cutting curse. What sort of person would do that to a baby? It couldn't have been an accident. The hit had been dead on and with a target that small it had to have been deliberate.

Suffice it to say, there are plenty of Squibs in the world that make moves on behalf of young and endangered muggle-born and raised students.
After all, a majority of the wizarding community disregard Squibs when they turn out not to have any magic.
