Summary
Sylvain's father always says that no one celebrates Solsticetide like Gautier. It was bad enough when Sylvain was growing up: Goddess forbid the margrave's heir fail to buy into the festivities. It's grotesque now. Two years ago the people of Faerghus were boiling mouldered barley and toasting rats over the coals for their Solstice night feasts, and that was if they were lucky. To pretend that five years of civil war haven't ravaged people and land alike, that the old hearty customs can go on just as they have for centuries, it turns Sylvain's stomach—
Felix interrupts him. "Then come to Fraldarius."
* * *
Sylvain visits Fraldarius to help the new Duke preside over the winter holidays. It's a lot more complicated than he thinks.

Summary
“Can you imagine if Dimitri came with us?” Sylvain asks. “He’d never shut up about propriety and if I was riding my horse right or any of that shit. This is perfect. Just you and me!”
He slings an arm around Felix’s shoulders. Felix lets him. Sylvain is telling a lie: Dimitri, if he had been allowed to travel with them to quell the rebellion, if he had taken the command his uncle wanted him to, would be quiet and solemn and hollow-eyed, exactly as he’s been the past two years.
But Sylvain is good at lying. Felix didn’t mind it so much when they were younger; it meant Sylvain could always get them out of trouble. It was only in the few years before Glenn died that it began to worry him.

Summary
Number one rule for working the night shifts at the sketchy gas station in the middle of butt-fuck nowhere was to not look at them, and they would leave you alone. They weren’t even supposed to see you if you didn’t look at them - just flicker the lights, rattle some shelves, and inflict the fear of death into your bone marrow.
Then, one night, one of them with stupid eyebrows and a serious attitude problem chose to come in only to start yelling at Zoro, who had done literally nothing to deserve it.

Summary
“I bleed in excess, Ferdinand,” Hubert says—a murmur, vulnerable, momentary—in a different voice, with a different heart. When he turns back his head, he holds Ferdinand’s gaze like a hand holds a lance. “You simply do not see it.”
Ferdinand looks in wide-eyed shock at the man across from him, whose dark hair curtains one side of his face even now, rendering all expressions incomplete. He wishes, for a stark, clear moment, to reach across the distance between them and brush aside that hair, tenderly, a gesture lost to history, and find what it keeps from him.
A foal, a correspondence, and a realization, after the war.
