“I’m okay, Mike. Don’t worry.”
Pressing his lips together, Mike nodded. “See you at lunch?”
“Sure.”
Will looked down at Mike’s hand, still wrapped around his wrist. He forced his heart to slow down.
“Oh,” Mike said, dropping his wrist as if he’d been burned. “Sorry.”
He turned around and hurried down the hallway, almost knocking into people walking in the opposite direction.

Or, the world is ending, and Will has noticed that Mike has been acting weird lately. He spends more time with him, sits closer to him, touches him more often. He’s also unusually protective, and Will can’t put his finger on why, because Mike is straight and dating his sister.

Summary
They say when you’re revived, your soul snaps back like a rubber band. But Will didn’t die in a hospital; he died in a world of rot, and when he was pulled back in 1983, his soul sheared.
Now, in the heat of 1989, Will hides his scars and ignores how Mike Wheeler looks at him. He pretends to be fine, but he is actually exhausted. He is also not alone. Everything changes when Will sees a vision in the Void. He discovers the truth about the night he disappeared and realizes the deadbolt on his front door didn't open by the Demogorgon.
As their secrets come out, Will and Mike are forced to confront their trauma and the feelings they have been hiding from each other for years.
