    Barbarian AU.

    Every five vorns, all of Cybertron's tribes come together to bathe in the firelight of the Festival. A celebration of unity, peace and prosperity, the Festival is one of the best places to find a mate, or start a courtship. On his way there; Rung's tribe joins up with Kaon's, and he finds himself shadowed by a then-young Megatron, whose determination to learn poetry ends with him laying claim to Rung as a mate when he becomes of age.

    25 vorns later, Megatron, Chief of the Kaon tribe, very much remembers that promise--and is determined to collect on it.

    The only thing left to do is convince Rung to go with it!

    “Ah.” Optimus cleared his throat and looked over Megatron’s shoulder, unable to meet his gaze for this. “Option two is you marry me and publicly claim legitimacy to the throne.”
    The silence was so long that he let his gaze creep back to Megatron. Megatron was staring at him with an absolutely unreadable expression.
    “Are you telling me that you would rather die than marry me.”

    The common Autobot wisdom about running into a Decepticon that you'd known before the war was: don't.

    M.T.Os were one thing; they hadn't really picked a side. But it was different for those who'd been around since before the war. Nobody who’d willingly joined the Decepticons had been a happy or well-adjusted individual to start with, and the war had only made things worse.

    So when Ratchet caught sight of the mech who was leading his band of captors, nobody could blame him for panicking just a little.

    (Or: Shot down en-route to Kimia, Ratchet reunites with Drift a few millennia ahead of schedule. When Drift is still a devout and ruthless Decepticon.)
