Wilbur laughs, bitter triumph tearing hysteria from his throat. “Phil!”

“Can you move?”
Wilbur laughs again, agony threading strain through his voice. “I think it’s broken.”

The man grunted, his huge hand closing over Wilbur’s scruff and hauling him away from the doorway. “Nothin’.”
“Nothing?!” Wilbur squirmed in his grasp, yanking himself away and peering over his hulking form to look back into the cabin. “Mate, your shelves are fucking full of toys, how have they not collapsed already? Where did you get all of those?”
“Get outta my house.”

Becoming a permanent fixture of Gotham Society was certainly an adjustment, especially for a circus kid whose performer’s smile was brittle with grief. But Dick was nothing if not a survivor. He soon learned that he could dazzle his audience with a smile and a quick quip just as well as he could with a trapeze.
And, sure, Bruce had always told him to be careful. To keep a watchful eye on his drink, and not to stray too far from Bruce’s side. But Bruce was overprotective, and Dick wasn’t a kid anymore. He didn’t need to fear Gotham’s elite because there was nothing to fear.

He spots the robin on a tree branch maybe thirty feet away, and Tim, grinning, goes to adjust the settings on the binoculars.
It's exactly then that he realizes what's behind the bird.
Because from here, on the third story and at just this angle, there's no treeline to block his view. Behind the little robin singing on its branch, he can see the Wayne family manor, clear as anything, close enough that it almost feels like he could reach out and touch it. One of the windows on the downstairs floor is open, and it's draped with light curtains that float softly in the breeze. A moment later, a different sort of Robin bounds into view, sans mask, grin wide and bright.
Tim flinches back as though burned.
