When Sam visited Ruby he was expecting everything, honestly, everything- but what he was seeing. A weeping three-year-old. In a demon's den, sitting on the floor alone. His mind went to worst case scenario, kidnapping, ransom but it's information instead of money, sacrifice too, but what Ruby's reaction to the child was surprised him even further.
(Basically, Ruby is doing shenanigans to gain Sam's trust to betray him when he has to kill Lilith, that's it.)

Instead he's sent back to the summer before his fifth year, has a conversation with Death, decides to save a few lives and also prevent the Light's victory in favour of bringing about the Grey Timeline, a balance of dark and light magic. But of course that's easier said than done, and every road to hell is paved with good intentions.

In his thirteenth life, he is Harry Potter once again and the wizarding world changes from the awakening of a reincarnated master of death. Unfortunately, said master of death has grown to be a sociopath that is hellbent on making Dumbledore suffer... And maybe forgot about the dark lord who takes offense to this.
The entire world must brace itself.
"Would I get to live for myself? Will I be able to be who I am?" Harry asked.
Death simply chuckled, guiding Harry towards the train. The experience was similar to when Harry had first entered Kings Cross in his first year.

Shaw's eyes narrowed as she took in the scene.
Leather Jacket.
Curly brown hair down the back.
Two guns.
It was Root.
At least, Shaw thought it was Root. Knew it even, beyond a shadow of a doubt. She knew that jacket and those curls and those guns. But she couldn’t reconcile the scene before her with Root—with who she knew Root to be. Sexy, an incorrigible flirt, dangerous, completely crazy and delusional, someone who had no concept of personal safety (Honestly, how many times did the woman have to get shot for her stupid Machine? Could she not for once put herself first?), quite possibly the bane of Shaw’s existence—aside from the fact that sometimes she fed her--adequate with a gun (well, two guns)…those were things Shaw associated with Root.
Not this.
Root hugging a child was not something Shaw thought she would ever see…she was pretty sure it should be illegal.~or~
Shaw doesn't do kids.

Summary
Daemons were the manifestations of one’s soul and magic. Bright, shimmering rainbow wisps that followed children around, invisible to the eyes of any without magic. Unique, saturated animals that represented not only soul and magic, but one’s personality and goals, flickering at the corners of a muggle’s sight.
It’s not healthy to find a young Wixen with a dull Daemon. It’s worrying to find a Daemon who entered its phase of shifting before normal, or one that has retained their malleability long after they should have settled. It’s more alarming when you find a Wix without their Daemon, or a Daemon without their Wix.
But what would Harry know of Daemons, when there’s no one around to see his own?
Or; Daemons are embodiments of a soul and it’s magic. They’re reflections of their humans, like humans are reflections of their soul. Even if you can’t see something going wrong on the human, something will definitely be different about the Daemon. Unfortunately, the magical world tends to be willfully blind when it comes to their boy savior.
