“Sorry, bud. It’s going to be a hm… a bit of a pickle to keep me alive.” Grace chuckles.
“Eridians build whatever Grace needs." Rocky chirps. ”Food that taste good and other stupid needs. Grace no worry. Stay alive and happy, Rocky make sure.”
Grace nods, but that familiar fear is creeping up on him. The one that visits him when his head hits the pillow, that makes him feel like he's just stalling the inevitable. It's silly.
All he has to do is not starve on the way to Erid. Then he'll be the only human on the planet. For the rest of his life. Which is not scary at all.

Summary
The alien—Grace—is finally asleep. Or, at least, Rocky thinks he is. He’s curled on his side, tucked away under a covering. Rocky sits on the other side of the alcove the human lies in, fiddling away with one of his many repair projects. Typically, watching another as they sleep is fairly straightforward and uneventful. Not much is needed beyond something to do and to keep a lookout for whoever’s resting.
But Rocky can’t help but focus more on Grace as he rests. He just can’t; the way the human sleeps is, quite literally, otherworldly.

On the way back to the Blip A following their misadventures over Adrian, Rocky and Grace are recovering from their injuries, exhausted and traumatised, when a misunderstanding threatens to tear them apart.
Chapter 3 Rocky's pov flashback chapter
The ship was too quiet. It had always been too quiet, of course, they'd prepared for that as best as they could. In fact a lot of their crew selection process had been about finding eridians who could cope better with the silence and isolation than average. It was why so many of the crew either came from oceanography clusters like Ulysses and Kupe, or were known to be a bit weird like Gerty and Herschel – and Rocky themself for that matter.
They'd all had meetings with the mission psychologists about how it would feel when their world shrunk from a boundless planet with countless voices raised in song to an xenonite box holding only twenty-three, and that had still been a shock. Twenty-three voices made for a thin, thin, thin harmony.

This is all Rocky's fault. He was stupid, stupid, stupid. How could he be so stupid and let this happen? Between the two of them, Grace was supposed to be the stupid one, not Rocky.
They were supposed to be okay, fine. Rocky and Grace saved the stars, saved Earth and Erid, saved humans and eridians. Rocky helped Grace and Grace helped Rocky. Then Grace saved Rocky. So Rocky had to save Grace.
Now they're supposed to be safe and fine.
But Grace isn't fine. Not at all. And it's all his fault.
Or, Grace accidentally comes into contact with Erid bacteria and gets sick, Rocky (understandably) panics
