Summary
He stepped out for a smoke, the gray sky above contributing to the overall mood and color tone of Hawkins. Eddie took a puff as he watched the cars go by. The snow plows had cleared the streets earlier that day, leaving a lovely pileup of dirty slush over the sidewalks, not helping the already darkened and dull mood Eddie constantly found himself in. Maybe he blended in like a shadow with the dark clothes he was wearing today.
Another puff and he watched a pop of color appear from across the street. An unmistakable beautiful head of hair tucked under a red ski cap with a matching scarf as Steve Harrington turned the corner and walked down the opposite side of the street. Eddie watched with interest at the handsome king of their high school seemed deep in thought and definitely not looking where he was going. Another car sped by and splattered more of the slush onto Steve's side of the street. Eddie stifled a laugh as Steve slipped and fell in the dirty snow. He watched with amusement of the supposedly most popular guy in their school make an ass of himself, but after a few beats he realized Steve hadn't gotten up.

Summary
Eddie knocked his knees and shoes together, he was always in trouble for moving around or not paying attention in class. His teacher said if he kept that up he might have to be held back, which would only give the bullies more fodder to make his life miserable.
The door opened and Eddie froze, sure he was about to be yelled at by his father. But his face lit up seeing Uncle Wayne was picking him up. Eddie nearly tripped over his chair as he got up to give his uncle a hug around the waist.
"Dang boy, they didn't even take you to the nurse's office first?" Wayne hugged his nephew back, not caring the dirt and blood was getting on his shirt, but also worried when was the last time the kid had a bath.
"Nuh uh." Eddie shook his head as he clung to his uncle. Wayne sighed and picked the little guy up, he was in second grade but still as small as he was in first grade when he lost his mom. Like when Liz died, his dad gave up and Eddie suffered for it.
"Well, Ed let's clean you up and how about I take you for a happy meal?"

Summary
Eddie put both cigarettes in his mouth and lit them both, passing one over to Steve. Steve grumbled a 'thanks' and snatched it from between his fingers, puffing away in the quickly cooling evening air. Thick fluff fell down from the sky which meant the monsters were out. Like how a spider was supposedly always near you but you couldn't tell unless you saw it.
Steve took a pull of his cigarette, irritated at Eddie for putting his mouth on it. But calling Eddie annoying was like calling the very dark sky anything less than creepy. Steve flicked a bit of the fluff off his jacket sleeve, then his hair, then eyelash. He looked up to see the sky growing redder as the clouds approached closer. He felt his stomach drop along with the barometric pressure before the sky grew darker.
Eddie stopped, his cigarette midway to his mouth to just stare at the red and black sky. "Why are the clouds so metal looking?" He asked before Hawkins was plunged into blackness. He felt arms around him and before he could somewhat work his feet again, Steve had flung them back into the cellar under the coffee shop.

He can’t breathe.
The tail yanks, and suddenly his back is slamming into the hard ground, the impact detonating every wound. He feels it all, and it’s agony. Ripping, shredding. The worst pain he’s ever known.
His heart stutters and kicks in his chest as his mind screams at him to get back up, to run, to do anything to survive; but he can’t. He’s pinned down, spread eagle on the dead ground, a storm of wings and teeth closing in.
Red lightning flashes above him, bathing everything in crimson, reminding him that he is in literal Hell.
He’s being eaten alive, and all he can think as the pain starts to blur is, I’m not ready.
Please. Not like this. Not now.
Please.
And then, from somewhere above all the madness that has become Eddie’s entire existence, a shape plunges into the wild fray. A human shape. An avenging angel, wielding a weathered baseball bat filled with bloody nails like it's a prayer in the dark.
An answer to his silent plea.
Steve.
OR:
Eddie Munson survives the bats.
Steve Harrington helps him learn to live again.
