Summary
All Jack can smell now is Robby’s thick pine scent, and he fills his nose and mouth with it, closing his eyes at the deliciousness. He doesn’t want to live in a world where that scent isn’t the first thing that he wakes up to. Smelling it on Robby’s pillow in the mornings when Robby goes to work has nothing on this, having it fresh and unlimited from the source.
Jack snuggles closer against his alpha, savoring the feeling of Robby’s skin against Jack’s bare chest, closing his own eyes briefly. He wants to burrow into Robby’s arms ever deeper. Jack wants to stay here forever with the soft morning sunlight painting gold into Robby’s hair.
But despite the lovely peace and quiet, the relief from knowing neither of them have anywhere to be…he can’t deny the fact that he’s leaking, aching, empty and needy the way only Robby can fix.

There’s more snow here in Fraldarius; the children in town have been building snowmen out on the lawn of the manor. You won’t be surprised to hear my father is absolutely delighted by them.
I wrote you another letter earlier in the week, but I’ve just received his highness’s invitation for his Coronation. I’d only be hurting myself and you if I failed to mention how happy I am to see you in Fhirdiad, even if it is for a silly ball for the boar king of our great nation. “I just — I’m trying to piece together how you got here,” Robby protests. “How you’re in my department, after all this time, right back in our city. Pittsburgh. You hate Pittsburgh.”
“So do you,” he spits. “You wanted to leave so badly, it was all you ever thought about, and yet you’re still stuck here.”
“Well, I was supposed to leave with you.”
“Gee, Michael, I’m sorry your entire universe revolves around me.”
Robby straightens up his back, levels out his shoulders. He tosses his rag away, flips up the rails on the gurney, takes out all the wires from the boy’s body, and wheels him out. When he comes beside Jack, he stops. His tone is bitter and sharp, but it comes out controlled and measured, “I think you should do your work somewhere else.”
