“Why—why, God?!” he hisses under his breath, voice barely louder than the crackle of the lanterns as he walks the perimeter of the campsite. “You hate me or something? Why out of all people did I have to end up as the background character in a game that’s not even finished?”
The circus caravans sit quietly for now, wheels half-sunk into the dirt from travel, paint peeling from too many roads and too many promises. Canvas tents are still being raised farther in, stakes hammered into the ground with dull, rhythmic thuds. It’s early—before everything. Before names turn into legends. Before stories rot into warnings.
“Thank the lord I haven’t met them yet,” he mutters, rubbing his gloved hands together more out of nerves than cold. “So if I do… just don’t screw it up. Don’t be a total abusive dick.”- Language:
