But the moment they said it, they felt a heavy pit of loss open up in their chest, like they had been emptied and left hollow like a carved pumpkin after the Feast of the Moon. They gasped, suddenly unable to take in enough of the bitingly frigid air, curling in on themself as they ached with the sudden vacuity making its home in them, fingers tingling with numbness as their head became light, dizzy.
“Ranboo.” A deep voice rumbled into their ear, close enough to send shivers down their spine. He said their name with a purpose, with a sense of satisfaction and amusement, and part of their mind quaked in fear, even if they weren’t quite sure what they were afraid of. “That was easy. It was nice to meet you, Ranboo. I’ll see you very soon.”
