Arthur has returned, a prophecy has been told, Merlin is fed up with all of it.
Merlin has, officially, given up on waiting for Arthur to return and settled down as small farmer. Everything was Fine, he had his sheep, his herbal garden, his dog, some lovely neighbors and friends. Merlin was Content. Of course it couldn't last. Out of the blue beings from a time long since past starts showing up both friends and foes. And Merlin is in the middle of it having to deal with both a new threat and all his old feelings coming back in full forces.

So he sets out, looking for Witchers to entrust with the things he values most. The things he can't let Nilfgaard get their hands on.
It's in his nature to play tricks, to steal. And stealing from the White Flame is fun. Until his mind slowly decends into madness.

When disgrace falls upon the Metinna Royal House, in the wake of the Nilfgaardian invasion, the omega Prince Julian of Lettenhove is captured by Redanian spies, who come for him at the infamously demented King of the North’s behest.
The south is swarming with Nilfgaardians though, and the only way to smuggle the Prince out of the war-ridden country is through mountainous monster territory. The King finds that the best solution to this problem is to hire a witcher to do his bidding.The chains fall from Julian’s hands, clattering to the floor. His hands would have followed suit had they not been seized. He’s hauled up then, and has to cling to the guard to keep from toppling — his head spins from the sudden vertical position and his sore muscles scream in agony.

Summary
Jaskier gets fired from his job as a professor at Oxenfurt because of his political views, though the official excuse is that he plagiarised a fellow professor’s work.
Assets seized in reparation, and with nothing more than the belongings he can carry, he ends up accepting a job interview to teach at Kaer Morhen. The school is high up in the mountains, considerably smaller than Oxenfurt, and teaches a far more exotic population of students.
Jaskier has never even met an elf, or a dwarf, or a dragon for that matter. Not to mention anything about the school’s legendary guardians, who, as it happens, don’t seem to like him at all. He can understand. After all, Oxenfurt is far from friendly to anyone that isn’t human. If they don't seem to expect much better from him, he'll just have to show them.

Eskel is rarely—if ever—truly angry. He is frequently, fondly, exasperated—with Jaskier, with their pretty little baby (their sweet little angel, the light of Eskel’s life, who wasn’t his by blood but was his in every way that actually counted; their precious little girl, whom Geralt no longer had any viable claim to, whom he’d abandoned on the mountain alongside Jaskier, and yet…), with his brothers. But this… this is so far beyond anger, the word doesn’t even begin to touch on the maelstrom of emotions swirling inside of the alpha. Calling it anger seems to cheapen it, in a way… but it’s the only word Jaskier knows that even begins to touch on all of this.
He is angry at Geralt… at Jaskier… and at himself. And the sheer acidic stench of it is enough to make Jaskier feel like he can’t breathe.
Gods, this is all Jaskier’s fault.
