It’s all he can do to undo some of the damage caused by him not seeing Nolan for what he was and the devastation he wrought on the world. Over one of his check-ins, they see each other as two broken people that might just be what the other needs. Just for a night.

Cecil is steady, a rat bastard, good at sex, funny when he wants to be, unfortunately very good at making bacon in the morning, able to sneak into the house without Mark knowing (Debbie doesn’t know how, but she knows that Mark’s terror of seeing Cecil at a little past nine in the morning, frying up eggs and bacon was real, and influenced by the surprise of Cecil being there at all, and not just the fact that Cecil could wield a pan like a goddamn housewife), pragmatic and a monster because of it. Nolan said that Cecil had a shockingly high, almost concerning, alcohol tolerance, and that he’d drank The Immortal under the table, and gotten Nolan more than tipsy.
Cecil Stedman is steady, and he's terrible. Debbie Grayson, newly falsely widowed, hates this. A lot.

There’s a house that’s fixed up, everything’s the way she remembers it; and she wonders if that’s because of Cecil, and the countless times that Nolan invited him over for dinner. She doesn’t like to think about that, either. She just wants to lie down and watch the water stains expand across the ceiling.
She wants to step out of her own skin, just for a little while.
And she does. For a little longer than she’s comfortable with, she’s best described as a husk of a person and a poor imitation of a mother. It’s bullshit, and she knows it, and even though she hates Cecil, he’s the one that snaps her out of it by inviting himself not just into her house, but into her kitchen and feels comfortable enough to eat her fucking cereal.
She walks down, and it’s a little past two in the afternoon, and really, he should at least be hitting the half-stale bread and cheese instead, but he slowly raises the spoon towards her and shoots her a dry, “Hey, Debbie. ‘Morning.”
Cecil and Debbie have breakfast and somehow, that's not the weirdest thing in the world.

Cecil finds her where he expected to.
Debbie’s swirling a glass of what he knows to be good whiskey, and her unfocused eyes are trying to glare him out of the room. Instead, he takes a seat next to her at the bench overlooking Sinclair’s valley of horrors.
Debbie turns to look through him with wide, terrified eyes that tell him she’s about to ask him to promise something he can’t. And he already knows that he’s going to lie. He watches nebulas form, quiver and fold in on themselves in her piercing gaze. If he was a different man in a different life, it would be a rather romantic notion that her eyes held such power. But he’s not.
And she’s not that kind of woman, either.
Cecil Stedman and Debbie Grayson understand each other in ways that very few others do. And they despise it.

The only person he really trusted to do anything around here that wasn't him was Donald, the saint to his devil-ass. Worked the same amount of ragged as Cecil, Donald was completely unflinching to most events with a steadfast determination. Cecil respected that of him. Which is also why whenever opportunities for a genuine break for one of them arose, he often willingly ceded it to Donald- just to give the man a break. Pity is a hell of a drug.
Which is why he's quite begrudgingly overseeing the security room for tonight.
Ten fifty-seven in the P.M.
Currently in between employee rotations, he should be expecting his partner for the next five hours in about four minutes- give or take how well the poor bastard knew the Pentagon hallways.It's to his surprise then, that the door whirs open right then, and footsteps fall through.
