Dan would never let Colt know he had no idea who or what Gracie was. None of the crew who had heard Colt talk about Gracie knew either. There's a running bet on Gracie, even.
The majority of the vote was that Gracie's a dog, though there's a hardcore group that's convinced Colt has a super sweet but nerdy sister.
When Ryder was alive, he swore that Gracie wasn't even a real person. Jody's old bet, from when she was a camera operator, was that Gracie's an ex of Colt's he never managed to recover from.
And Dan hadn't placed a bet because he's terrified Colt would learn of it and be sad when he realized Dan didn't know who or what Gracie was.

Summary
Getting settled on a new planet has all kinds of ups and downs, Ryland Grace knows this. Eridian's are very different, not to mention simply their method of speech.
Grace may have forgotten to mention that some forms of sound, sudden and sharp, are painful to humans. It never came up, and after nearly a year on Erid, it had sort of slipped his mind. Not to mention, being on a space craft for nearly five years must have brought an issue like this to light, but it seems that he and Rocky had just gotten lucky.
The alternative, the pain of new sounds is discovered the hard way, with a bit too much blood as a result.

Peter's voice whittles down to a high pitched whistle, forgetting that he needs to breathe to continue creating more sound.
After a few more agonizing seconds during which Peter weighs the possibilities that he just gave his mentor and the savior of the world a heart attack, Mr. Stark looks up at him, eyes suddenly wide.
A beat passes.
"What's your teacher's name again?"
AKA, Ryland Grace and Tony Stark hooked up in college. This is fine, until 20 years later, Peter Parker gets involved. It's all downhill from there.

“What are you talking about?” Grace's fingers played quick chords as he spoke. He didn’t even look as he did it, but it did not make them any less purposeful.
“Discussing possible reasons why Tau Ceti is not infected while other stars are,” Eva replied deftly. “I would invite you to join, but we were just finishing—”
“Oh, that’s easy.” His hand twisted a knob, and the notes came out sharper. “It is infected—Petrova Line and everything.”
In Grace's opinion, dreaming about time traveling is no excuse for getting out of practice with his Eridian. To the rest of the Petrova Taskforce, it seems a bit odd that their resident Astrophage expert has suddenly taken to carrying a keyboard around and playing it whenever he speaks. Eva Stratt resolves to figure out what is going on.

The room is silent for a moment. I can see her shaking as she waits for me to respond.
“Okay! Thank you for telling me,” I said, calmly. I was a bit out of my depth here. I’ve had queer kids before, of course, but having one come out to me like this was a new experience.
She– he blinks at me, clearly surprised at my anticlimactic reaction. Should I have been more surprised? Enthusiastic? I don’t know how to respond in this situation. I didn’t want to freak him out by freaking out, but what if that was what he wanted? This has got to be a big deal for him. Do I seem uninterested? Crap!

“You could take a later ferry,” Bond says. “I know some places still open for lunch around here.”
Q ceases rummaging through his laptop bag, idly nudging a zipper tab with a fingertip. Calais' off-season silence echoes around them and grates in Bond's ears. He's already expecting what the answer will be, and he doesn't know why he continues to bother asking.
“Bond...” Q catches his gaze for just a second longer this time, before ducking his head and tugging his seatbelt on with an affirming click. “The ferry terminal, please. I'll see you back in London tomorrow.”
Bond doesn't see Q when he returns to London the next day.
In which the Quartermaster is whisked across the continent near the roof of the world, and Bond's attempt to get him back leaves them hurt and stranded in the fabled mountains of the old silk road.

The man moved with the same predatory grace he always had, and if he had aged in the past five years (it was a bit hard to tell from a subpar camera on the other side of the street) then he had aged well. Which was all entirely predictable of course. No, what had thrown Q and everyone else in the ops center who had ever met Bond or read his file was the way that he was dressed - faded blue jeans with holes in the knees, a t-shirt from some unidentifiable but probably local surf shop, and-
“Are you wearing Converse?” demanded Q before he could think better of it.
Bond’s eyes unerringly found the camera through which Q was watching, an expression of vague displeasure. “Well, I don’t generally make a habit of wearing suits to fix my boat, and I doubted you had the patience for me to change.” .James Bond has been retired for five years. But when a highly sensitive mission goes to hell just a few miles from where he as settled down Q is forced to ask for his help. Bond and Q return easily to their old ways - they are also forced to finally confront their feelings for each other.

Bond rolls forward, although his usual liquidly graceful movements are stiff from his injuries. Q doesn’t startle, too used to Bond’s antics over months of travelling together, although his breath does hitch when Bond sweeps his fingers under Q's glasses, brushing lightly against the dark bruises Q knows are still there.
"Think of this as a vacation,” Bond says. “You haven't stopped at all since we left London."
"A vacation," Q says incredulously. "With the scorching sun and questionable water and unreliable food supplies and a heightened chance of tropical water-borne diseases, and all my equipment sunk in the ocean."
“With the briny air and an abundance of wild and sea life and limitless possibilities," Bond counters, "without alerts or surveillance or the need to stare at a glowing screen for hours on end.”
(Post-Spectre mission fic, where the mission is to survive being stranded on a desert island, and shutting down Spectre's operations is a critical but secondary objective reserved for after they get off the island.
But when did MI6's missions ever run according to plan?)
