Jason could see how they might, it was a clusterfuck of a city. He would know, he grew up in its streets, died at its hands, and when he’d been given another chance, he came right back. That was how messed up he was– how messed up Gotham made him. Jason could understand the idea that it was a place where someone could get away with centuries old plots of large scale political manipulation and corruption. But what they didn’t know, what they couldn’t know, was that for the kids, the workers, the people of this city who spent each day just trying to survive, the hardship built loyalty.
Intense, desperate loyalty.

He underestimates how badly it will affect him and has to make the impossible decision: spend the next few hours in tortourous agony, or ask his brother for help. Which is simplifying it. Because, well, magic isn’t allowed in Gotham, first off. But also, it really doesn’t want to come to Gotham. Of all the things the Bat tries to keep out, magic is the easiest because magic wants to stay as far away from the city as possible. Zatanna called it a “cesspit of untamed ambient magic,” which was being nice even with calling it a cesspit. The last time some asked Constantine about Gotham he just laughed, lit his cigarette, and walked away.

Jason’s first mistake was hacking the Bats’ secret comm channel.
Although could it really be called hacking when they’d never bothered to change their frequency since his Robin days? All he’d had to do was log on, and boom – instant access to the best ways to avoid meddlesome Bats while he got shit done. And since his end was carefully muted, they wouldn’t even know anyone was listening.
His second mistake was thinking he could listen without getting sucked back into their drama.
Jason came back to Gotham with two intentions: one – protect Crime Alley and do it right this time. And two – avoid the Bats. Neither of these were proving as simple as he’d hoped.
