Shane Hollander has never missed a practice, never taken a bad penalty, never once failed to submit a color-coded self-assessment on time. He eats brown rice and broccoli by choice. He is, by any reasonable measure, fine.
The Montreal Metros recruitment team disagrees. But whatever's wrong with him can probably be fixed with the right coaching and a few weeks at an elite mental conditioning camp.
What he finds at Camp Straight Edge is a group of new friends with similar struggles, one Russian junior champion who finds the whole situation endlessly amusing, and the slow realization that the problem they're trying to fix might not be a problem at all.

As soon as Ilya realizes that he has to kill himself, his brain immediately latches onto one indisputable fact: someone is going to have to find his body. There is no way around that, but not even the premature guilt for whoever has the unpleasant task is enough to talk him out of it, anymore.
If he hadn’t ghosted Galina, she’d probably tell him that he cares so much about it because of his own experience finding his mother. She’d also probably tell him that the fact that losing Shane Hollander is enough to make him kill himself means that he’s got a long, nonoptional date with a padded room clogging up his calendar for the foreseeable future. Shane's got a five-year plan to get him there and when you have a plan nothing can go wrong. Right? Right. When you have a solid plan and a marriage that's on paper only there's no risk of feelings getting involved. Not on Rozanov's part and certainly not on Shane's.
