"How old are you anyway?" Alvin asks.
"Uhm…" Jude says again. "Eighteen?" He winces at his pause and the uncertainty in his voice. He'd practised the lie in the mirror two dozen times, but reality is different.
Alvin laughs, leaning in closer so Jude has to lean back a little, the wooden edge of the bar digging in his lower back.

It's close enough to winter that it's certainly not a seasonal activity anymore, so Mitsuba thinks it's crazy that Kou suggests a walk through a forest one lazy afternoon.
“Why would I want to do that,” he says flatly. “I genuinely can't think of a single thing I'd rather do less.”
Kou seems unfazed by his immediate rejection. “The weather's nicer today than it'll probably be for the next few weeks,” he starts, putting up a finger for each point he lists. “It's good exercise, which I need after all the time I spent in bed when I was sick a couple weeks ago. There won't be many other people around due to the season. It's healing.”
“Not a single one of those things you've just said affects me in any way whatsoever,” Mitsuba tells him. “Especially not the healing aspect. Try again."
Kou glares.
“I have a ton of snacks in my bag that we can eat when we find a good spot,” he admits, after a moment. “And I bought you bubble tea.”

"And to answer your question", Senkuu continued like nothing had happened after he'd calmed down, which Gen appreciated, "Weeks, I'd say. Months. Depends on what you define as the beginning." Gen stared blankly ahead, not really seeing anything, not really even trying.
"You're white as a ghost. Are you okay? Wait, stupid question. Obviously you aren't. We have to clean those wounds of yours right now. Did you find anything useful?"

You’re immediately on your feet.
“Isabeau.” You tuck your journal away and your drink tumbles to the ground. You ignore it. “What’s wrong?”
Isabeau slides to a halt before you, panting from sprinting to you. “It’s Siffrin,” he manages to squeeze out. “He won’t wake up.”

Summary
For as long as anyone could remember, the barrier between this world and the realm of spirits and demons had been weakening. Nobody knew why, just that every few years, somebody would need to pay the ultimate price and restore it with their life.
Detective Shikanoin Heizou, a skeptic, offers himself up to be this years sacrifice with the intentions of investigating- only to find himself trapped on the other side of the barrier, caught in a world of spirits and monsters and gods and transforming into a spirit himself.
He's not alone, however.
Kaedehara Kazuha, a carefree and mysterious wind spirit, offers him help and guidance in this new world at every turn. He might just be the ticket back home. But he might just be the perfect reason to stay.
