In his early childhood, Dante did not understand why he was never allowed to bathe with his older brother, Vergil, nor why they had to dress in separate rooms with strict boundaries. The only time they were permitted to share a space was at night, sleeping together in the same bed where the two children would curl up and hold each other until they drifted off to sleep. It wasn't until he turned eight that a tragic event stripped away everything they had known. Only then did Dante finally understand why He was so fundamentally different from her twin brother.

Summary
Vergil Sparda was bound by a royal decree to wage war for the kingdom, leading his army to crush the invading forces of a rival kingdom. In the name of duty, he was forced to leave his pregnant wife behind, isolated within the Sparda mansion.
The protracted and arduous battle lasted nearly a year of blood and steel. Far away on the battlefield, Vergil remained unaware of the tragedy unfolding in his home: his beloved wife and newborn child had died during childbirth.
