The phone rings and his mom answers with a cheery tone and bright smile. "Hello?" Her smile widens upon hearing the voice on the end of the line. "Joyce! It's so nice to hear your voice. How are you?" Mike listens to the conversation as he reaches for the newspaper and pulls it to himself. He scans the front page and stops when he sees the date.
November 6th, 1988.
Huh. That explains the Feeling he has. Mike takes a breath and reads the headlines, keeping an ear out for his mom's conversation. "No, Will didn't spend the night here. Is he not at home?" Mike freezes, his blood going cold. The newspaper slips out of his hand, and a pit forms in his stomach.

Mike couldn’t remember the last I love you he uttered from his mouth. The last piece of sheer genuine emotion that slipped from his tangled brain and into the world. And it probably was very long since someone said it to him…Maybe Karen said it, but that had to be when he was 5 ish or Nanc- no, she wouldn’t say it. Holly didn’t need to,she knew you said I love to your family but she wasn’t old enough to realize just because you were family by blood, by tears, by bad memories, awkward dinners,or shared screams that rattled the thin walls of the captive household doesn’t mean you were a family- a good one atleast
And even if you didn’t have those, that doesn’t mean you’re not a family
Mike didn’t hate his family, they pissed him off and made him want to scream from the silence that stretched from one corner to the other of his house but still, he tolerated them
